DS16 and I will be arriving at MCO next Thursday night  and are scheduled to arrive at 8:40 PM. If we let ME handle our luggage, what time could we expect our luggage arrive to our room at OKW? Just wondering if we should get the luggage and take it to ME ourselves.

Thanks.

Luggage should arrive within three hours of resort check in. With an 8:40 p.m. flight, you could be checked in between 10 and 10:30 (maybe a bit earlier), so luggage could arrive as late as 1:30. Collecting your own luggage would mean checking in 20+ minutes later, but you would have your bags right away.

I strongly recommend having what you need for the first 24 hours in your carry-on bags regardless of whether or not you plan to use the luggage transfer service, however. If you choose to do that, using the luggage transfer service makes more sense. They will hold your bags for delivery in the a.m. if you want. Just have the front desk make arrangements with bell services AND put your Do Not Disturb sign out in case they don't get it straight, then call in the morning.

I love DME and the luggage transfer perk. But if I were arriving in the evening, after 6pm, I would be very tempted to leave my bags untagged and get them myself. I hate having to wait until later in the evening to unpack stuff.

So, it's up to you. If you land ontime, you won't be off the plane until just before 9...which means you won't be at OKW until 10:15 at the earliest. And luggage gets to the resort up to 3 hrs after you checkin.
My only concern is what airline you arrive on. If you arrive on Side A of MCO, and you decide to get your own bags, you have to leave the gate area, take the tram over to the main terminal (everyone has to do this...no different for any airline), go down to level 2, baggage claim, Side A. Get your bags, go back up to level 3 (where you originally arrived), cross the terminal to Side B (not a huge walk...about a min or two), and then go down to level 1, ground transport, to get to DME. If you arrive on Side B, it's much easier. Tram to maiin terminal, over to Side B, down a level, get the bags, continue down to level 1.

How about a different alternative? Put whatever you're going to need for that night/next morning in your carryon - which is always a good idea when traveling - then put the yellow ME tags on your checked bags. When you get to the hotel, tell bell services to hold your regular baggage until you call in the morning. When you get to your room, put the "Do Not Disturb" sign out for extra insurance that you won't be unduly disturbed until you want your bags. When ready the next morning, call bell services to have them deliver the bags.
