Using DVC pts for campsite ?

I thought I read that some people do this. Does anyone have a link that shows you how many pts it costs to do this ? We are thinking of buying DVC and wondering if it would make sense to do so before we do our camping stay there.

i know people have done it...we decided to buy a class a instead of the dvc membership, that way we could do more things...i am sure someone will let you know once they read the post..

Yes, you can. We are DVC members who just bought our first RV, so I was curious about that as well. Points range from 6 a night (Sun-Thu low season) to 19 a night (last couple of weeks in Dec.). Pretty cheap compared to the other resorts!

Here are the 2008 DVC Points for the Fort:

Value Season: Jan 1 – Feb 13 and Aug 3 – Dec 18
Sun-Thurs 6 points/night
Fri-Sat 11 points/night

Regular Season: Mar 30 – Aug 2
Sun-Thurs 8 points/night
Fri-Sat 14 points/night

Peak Season: Feb 14 – March 29
Sun-Thurs 9 points/night
Fri-Sat 16 points/night

Holiday Season: Dec 19 – 31
Sun-Thurs 10 points/night
Fri-Sat 19 points/night


IMHO, the booking fee and the fact that the point value is roughly $10-12 a point (at least in the rental realm) makes it not so great a value.

We just sold our DVC in favor of buying a little camper (an Aliner) and a tow vehicle - we decided that it will allow us to get out a lot more and allow more flexibility than being "married" to the mouse...not that we don't want to go to WDW at least annually, but we were starting to feel nickel and dimed with a dues increase and the booking fees for outside of the DVC resorts. Be sure to factor in the annual dues as you do your number crunching.

We stayed last week at the Fort on DVC points. We booked it last year so we did not get hit with the $95 fee. For 6 nights, we used 61 points. DVC members get preferred sites but you still have to pay the $5 per night pet fee if you bring pets with you. For us, we felt it was a good deal. This was the second time we have done it.

We bought our pop-up a year ago and our DVC membership this past September. I feel we have the best of both worlds now. Staying at AKV for 10 nights in June and then down to the Fort for Christmas and New Years for 10 nights paying cash (unless there is an AP rate at that time).

My two favorite things are Mickey and camping. Plus we get the extra extended weekends in the camper from April until October.

i stayed on a combo of points and cash last year. i was told i only had to pay the pet fee on the cash nights. i was not charged any fee for my dog on the points nights. another case of depends on the cm you get at check in.

As for points cost and dues, it all depends on what resort you buy in to and how many points you buy. There is a minimum number of points you must be if you go through disney but if you buy on the resale market (timeshare store is great to work with), you can buy any size contract you want/afford. I've been a DVC member for over 10 years and while i love the DVC resorts, the program itself is not as flexible as it once was, most of the changes are not in favor of the guest/owner, but in favor of DVC. I sold off 2 of my contracts so that we could buy an RV. I used to envy the RVers at the fort when we passed the entrance and wish i was going there before going to any dvc resort. I hate that we have to pay the 95 now since i used to split up my weeks on pts/cash on weekends. multiple reservations with 95 fee really add up, especially considering the fee costs more than the site for one night!
