Using DVC points at Disney resorts overseas

I am a new DVC member (bought a resale OKW that closed December 2007), but as I had already just been to Disney World and Disneyland on my last trip some of my points will expire before I next go to Disney World.

As such I wanted to save money and use them to book accomodation during my next trip, which includes Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland Resort. However the table for next year has still not been published and so I do not know how much it will be. Does anyone know when it will be published?
Also, to make sure I do not miss out can I make a booking direct with the resort (or through Member Services) and then transfer some or all of it to a points booking when the table is finally released?

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest calling MS to see if you can go ahead and reserve the dates you want using this years point charts. Then when the new charts are released, probably very late this year, they can adjust the points accordingly. If I'm wrong, there are members here who can correct me. Good luck with your planning, I'm so jealous.

First of all, welcome home!

We bought OKW resale in 2006 as our first DVC contract (living in a non-registered state/province, we couldn't buy direct from Disney unless we in the USA parks - and we weren't willing to wait for our next trip to purchase in).

The points charts for the "Disney Destinations Around the World" (Tokyo DL, Hong Kong DL, and Paris DL) aren't released until the late Fall of each year - which is very frustrating if you want to book for early the following year. The specific date they are released isn't predictable. Last year it was in November that they were released, but on previous years it had been earlier. The only thing you can do is to keep checking for updates on the Member Services website.

As for your 2nd question . . . if you book on cash, then book later on points, those are two separate reservations that have nothing to do with each other. In doing this, you won't be able to "transfer" your cash reservation to a DVC reservation.

Hope that helps!

simzac: MS won't let you book that way - sorry.

all I'll say is we live in the UK and used our points to go to Disneyland Paris a couple of years ago - it worked out to be the same price as going to WDW in Florida (even with cost of transatlantic flights) - but was different, for an experience.

Since then, the points requirements at D Paris have shot skywards. The hotel we used went from approx 28 points per night to approx 50 ppn - if I remember correctly. It's now way too expensive in points for what it is (in terms of theme parks and accommodation), in my opinion, even travelling from within Europe. You may get a better cash deal instead of using points... or may be better off looking to Tokyo or HK.

They have no special relationship with DVC (not least because the resort is not run by Disney) but have a lot of adverts for another brand of vacation club everywhere (I think it was Marriott or something).
