Using Disney World tickets at Disneyland

Does anyone know if the WDW pass has to have been used at WDW before you can use it at Disneyland?

I currently have a WDW annual pass, but I can/will buy a non-expiring pass if this is the case. While we are going to WDW before the Disneyland trip, there would be no reason for us to burn a day at WDW from the pass before Disneyland.

Just not feeling the $125 expense for one day (and not even arriving until lunchtime) before our Cali Coastal cruise in September.

You cannot use a WDW annual pass at Disneyland. There is, however a Premier Annual Pass that is good for both FLA and CA parks.

I don't know the difinitive answer to your question about being able to use your non-expiring WDW tickets at DLR before you activate them at WDW. However, I do know that the tickets must be valid at WDW when you use them at DLR. If they haven't been activated, I'm not sure they would be technically 'valid'. I'd call DLR and find out for sure.

I am a WDW vet who went to DL on Wed 7/18 and DCA on Thurs 7/19. We had 2 day WDW passes from a free dining stay a couple of years ago. My wife and my passes were never activated; my DS6's pass had 1 day left with NE added. These were not park hoppers,

At DL, we arrived at the gate at about 715 and found a spot pretty much at the front of the line. While my family waited, I approached the CM at one of the turnstiles. She gave my passes to a supervisor and they were returned with 1 day hoppers. No problem that they were not used first in WDW. By the time the gates were opened we were all set, and walked right in with everyone else.

At DCA, we followed the same routine, and found equal success. Even though there were a lot more people in line early, we were still accommodated before the gate even opened (I was really hoping to avoid having to wait until we got to the turnstile, so this was great). On this day, we only got one-park tickets, not hoppers.

Hope this helps!

We just used WDW tickets in May. Process was pretty simple for us as well. A word of caution - the exchange process is not consistent. We used single day non-hopper passes we got from free dining several years ago (before they required 2 day tickets). The first two days - one at DL and one at DCA - no problems. Told the cast member they were non-hoppers and wouldn't be mad if they were pixy dusted to hoppers. Each time we got hoppers! On the last day at DL, however, the manager was quite firm that you could not exchange single day tickets. We went round and round about this as they had been doing it for the last two days. It took 3 levels of managers to get us tickets. In the end they said they were doing us a favor by exchanging them. No hoppers that day. The cast member at the gate was very kind and she didn't understand the problem with single day tickets. She was apologizing like crazy and hoped this wouldn't keep us from getting into the park but I told her not to worry as I had two day tickets in my hotel room as we didn't know if we would spend an extra day.

I guess the point is to be nice to the cast members and the managers and you may get pixy dusted. All you have to do is ask.

We are going to DL in a few weeks for 2 days,. Then in November we are going to WDW for 6 days. So if I wanted to just buy an 8 day WDW PH to use 2 days of that at DL, I would have to purchase the No Expiration option, since the first use of the ticket will be on our trip in a few weeks, correct?

If I run the numbers on that for 2 adult and 2 child PHs, it comes out cheaper to separately buy a 2 day PH for DL and 6 day for WDW. Am I missing something here? Or does the savings reveal itself if I do more days?

When I run the numbers it comes out much cheaper to buy WDW, No Expiration, tickets.

An 8 day MYW PH No expire ticket is about $607. A 6 day MYW PH which expires is About $ 357. The difference is $250, which is more than a 2 day PH at DL.

It might make sense to but a 10 day MYW PH WP & M no expire ticket for about $716. Then, you get 10 water park days at WDW for the rest of your life and 2 2 day visits to DL for $359.

DL 2 Day PH, 2A +2C. = $776

$776 + WDW 6 Day No expire Park Hopper, 2A + 2C = $776 + $2092 = $2868

WDW 8 Day No Expire Park Hoppers, 2A + 2C = $2390

WDW 8 Day saves nearly $500.

If you may visit one of the resorts again within the year you should consider a Premiere AP.

wanted to share that I have used WDW tickets at the land as well. I had 7 day hopper none expire tickets left from previous trip. I arrived at the turnstile and the CM called someone over. That CM left for a few minutes and then returned with a 1 day hopper DL pass and my original WDW ticket.

Now here's the question...I now have a 4 day non hop not activated ticket from WDW. Can I exchange it for DL tickets 2 days and then still have the other 2 days left for another visit or will they expire??

DL 2 Day PH, 2A +2C. = $776

$776 + WDW 6 Day No expire Park Hopper, 2A + 2C = $776 + $2092 = $2868

Yes, but if I do the 2 day DL PH an the 6 Day WDW Ph, I won't need the no expire option for the WDW ticket since we will use all 6 days consecutively. So then I get $1,389 for the 6 day WDW PH for a total of $2,165, where the 8 Day WDW PH No E costs $2,390.

Although the whole point may be moot. I see your point that if we are going back to WDW again (which we probably will) we should just look at the Premiere AP.

I am coming up with slightly different numbers than you are for the WDW prices, are you factoring in sales tax, or using a different site than the regular WDW one?

Yes I included sales tax for WDW which by the way at DLR there is no tax on tickets.

When you use a WDW ticket at DLR, the CM checks WDW information to see if there are days left to use and subtracts one day at a time. So for multiple days you do this multiple times. I'm not sure if this makes your WDW ticket active or not. I've only done this with old WDW tickets that never expire and have no experience with inactivated tickets.

Bumping the thread - any changes for 2013?

We bought 10-day non expiring WDW park hoppers before the last ticket increase. They were $62.79 a day - and that's without including the 10 water park days we got.

As it happens, we have a three day trip planned in April, and the "break even" for us would be at four days, so we're looking at doing the ticket swap each day.

Thanks to everyone in the thread who's already posted - we're going to shoot for the "campout" style first-in-line approach to get them swapped before park opening. I also thought about booking the Plaza Inn character breakfast to get us in before park open at least one day... also thinking we could get the exchange done without wasting any park time.

When we were visiting DL in 2010, we had 4 days remaining on our non-expiring single park tickets. I spoke with one of the CM at the gate prior to see if we could get our tickets the night before and was told it had to be the morning of. I also inquired as to what kind of ticket would I get in exchange and she told she always gives a hopper but it varies from person to person. Both days we entered the park we were given Hopper tickets. Hope that helps and remains consistent and your mileage may vary.

We are headed back this summer and are hoping for the same success.

- You can only trade one day at a time.
- In theory, if you have PHs, you will get PHs. If you have one Park, you will get one Park. Results may vary on this one.
- it has to be done the day of, so one day at a time.

Any March 2013 successes?

I have a 2005 WDW Key to the world card from hotel stay with 10 day unactivated park hopper I want to use.

Just did it yesterday with activated 10-day no expiration hoppers. Received 1-day hoppers in return. We're taking a break today, then we'll do it again tomorrow.

I may have missed this in the previous pages but does the WDW non-expiration ticket have to be used at WDW for at least 1 day before the ticket exchange can be done at DL?

Thanks.
