Using Disney World tickets at Disneyland

Okay here is even a trickier question...

We have non-expiring WDW PH tickets left from 2007 with 2 days on it for all our 4 kids, but 2 of them in 2007 were children by Disney pricing, but now they are Disney "adults."

I specifically asked the CM's at WDW how they would handle this if the kids were older when we came back to use them, and they said they would change them to adult tickets for the remaining days left if they were now disney "adults."

So... since we are going to DLR I'm not sure if they would handle it the same way. Does anyone know? Would they accept children's WDW non-expiring hoppers for my 10 year old and 12 year old? Or is that just too much to expect?

IIRC I saw somone post a similiar experience and it worked just fine.

Thank you for letting me know this is an option. Might I ask where you purchased the 10-day? I get mine from Undercover Tourists and they send out a paper ticket. In the past when I activated at WDW, they gave me a plastic one so that it is more durable.

So basically, I need to find out:
1) Can I use the WDW park hopper at DL before going to DW if it was purchased from an authorized non-Disney business?
2) Can I swap out a paper 10-day pass for a plastic 10-day pass (well, it will be a 9 day pass at that point) after it is activiated once I go back to WDW?

Thanks!

This questions was never answered. Add me to the list of people who have the same question. :)

Anybody know? Anyone who asked previously have an answer now?

Thanks! :)

I never figured it out. I made the decision to go to WDW for Christmas instead of DL this year since we are out of days on our old 10-day passes. I guess it will be a nice change of pace.

So let me get this straight. I CAN use my Premier WDW pass at Disneyland and California Adventure???

A premiere pass allows access to all WDW and DL parks. Are you sure you're not confusing it with a Premium pass? I'd imagine if you owned a Premiere pass you'd be aware of that lol.

Thanks for all the great information on this thread. A little wrinkle to the normal question ...

I just found out i'm going to be on Jeopardy (YIKES!!!) so i'll be flying out from upstate NY to California for the taping the last week of July/beginning of August. I'm sure the parks will be swamped but hey ... you only go on Jeopardy! once :-) My mom is coming with me for this trip as she's the only one that could on short notice.

Anyway, I've got one day left on a park hopper from 2001 that looks like will be valid out there. My mom has a different park hopper NE that has 2 days on it.

The wrinkle -

Are these tickets tied to fingerprints like they are in Florida? Lets just say that my mom has "acquired" tickets that were left behind by a less than scrupulous ex-boyfriend (the tickets are legit, the guy himself, not so much). There are 3 days left on those tickets. Would I be able to use the ex's tickets? or are they biometric like in the World? I'm not sure if those two databases are tied together and it seems like the CM just takes the ticket and exchanges it without any fancy fingerprint stuff.

Any help is appreciated, and i'll be sure to post when my show will air. Thanks so much!!

Officially, I would think that only he would be able to use the tickets.

Just remember DL doesn't have finger print scanners. But if the tickets are signed or have a name printed on them, some will ask for ID.

Mike,

Congratulations on being on Jeopardy and welcome to the DIS!

I personally have no idea what the process is. I haven't tried using a WDW ticket at Disneyland yet. All you can do is give it a try. It sounds like they don't check the biometrics. But if they do, the worst that will likely happen is you'll have to buy a ticket. Please let us know how it goes.

You should also know, as part of the DIS welcoming process, someone will be along shortly to reply to your post, and rail against you for considering using a pass that didn't originally belong to you. It's important that you understand that what they're really saying is "We're so glad you're here! Welcome to the family!"

Best of luck on all fronts! :)
Sam

Thanks for the info so far.

Sam, Thanks for the welcome. I'd like to say that the Mouse has taken enough of my money over the years (25+ trips to the world, 5 to the land, oodles of vinylmations and more HM merchandise and swag than I care to count) but no offense will be taken for criticism. At least it shows someone is reading the post :hippie:

Since it didn't work for me personally I don't know officially but I don't see any reason why you couldn't use the ticket. I also believe my experience was a fluke in trying to use our old tickets.

What an awesome thread!!!!

I hope someone has answers to my questions! I am planning a trip to DL next month with the kids. We have WDW tix with NE from 2005, and they don't include PH.

Here are my concerns:

1. We purchased the passes when the kids were 4, 6, and 9. They are now 11, 13, and 16. Will I need to pay the difference from child to adult?

2. Our tickets don't include PH, but we'd like to get a PH. Can we upgrade the passes once they exchange them?

I am really concerned that this will turn into a nightmare instead of the "magical day" that we are hoping for. I am SO grateful that I can upon this thread and really hope someone knows how I should deal with this.

Thanks in advance!!!

Interested to see what answer you get. I don't tend to buy park hopper much anymore and thinking that issue will come into play soon enough for us. DS is 9 so will be an adult on our next trip to California too.

Protocol is to give you a parkhopper for a parkhopper, and a one-park ticket for a one-park ticket. I phrase it that way because you can occasionally get a CM that does things differently, but plan to just get a one-park ticket.

I am curious about the same thing...

What sonnyjane is saying totally makes total sense. One-park for one-park and hopper for hopper.

Back in January, I purchased 1 day DL tickets and then took them to the ticket booth at noon and upgraded to a hopper pass; just paid the difference per ticket (about $25 per ticket, at that time, I think).

Does anyone see why this would apply the same way? When they exchange tickets (from WDW to DL) at the turnstile, do they give you a one day pass? Couldn't we just take our newly exchanged ticket to the ticket booth and then pay the difference?

It's certainly worth asking.... but I know that WDW tickets that are exchanged are NOT upgradeable...in other words you cannot use them toward an upgrade to a two-day ticket or anything more, so that would signal to me that you also couldn't upgrade them to a hopper either...but you never know. It could totally depend on how generous your CM is that morning...

I may not understand your question exactly, but I can explain how the WDW to DL ticket exchange worked when we did it a few times. You have to approach the actual turnstiles. (Weird to me, because I went to guest relations, but that is not correct). Anyway, you go to the turnstile, and after you present a valid WDW non-expire hopper pass, the CM gets on their walkie talkie, and calls for a supervisor (I assume). You step to the side slightly, and wait while that supervisor type CM takes your pass (to guest relations INSIDE the park? Not 100% sure). It appears that they take your pass, and CALL WDW, and read off the numbers or something, and WDW takes a day off your pass. (Maybe they do it online now). Then they return, and the CM puts the one day DL hopper thru the machine, and you enter the park, and she hands you that one day hopper to use for FP, re-entry. They make sure YOU enter the park, immediately.

I assume they do not want people getting the one day hopper, like at guest relations, and then selling that one day hopper or something. And you need a hand stamp and the one day hopper for re-entry, so they are covered with their procedure.

I will say I am surprised they allow this, because it is extra work for them.... but it is sometimes such a great deal. We buy 10 day no-expire WDW passes, so sometimes if we get one day at DL, it is much cheaper to use one of those 10 days vs buying a one day hopper at DL!

Just this last week, we used unexpired park hoppers we bought in 2008 for WDW. dd was 8 at the time and is now 16. There was no problem getting her in with the "child" ticket. The procedure was a little different at DL and DCA. At DL, when we presented our WDW tickets at the turnstiles, the cast member actually closed the line and went himself to the office, removed one day from our tickets, returned and gave us 1 day park hoppers for DLR. He did it very quickly--just a couple minutes. On the ticket, it says that it was replacement for "WDW Media". Later in the afternoon, we had no problem with a handstamp and entering into DCA with our replacement tickets.

On the day we went to DCA first, the castmember just called over to a supervisor who took our tickets somewhere--I didn't see where she went. We just stood to the side and the line continued to file through. It took her about 10 minutes or so to come back and tell us the number of days we had left on our passes and they issued us new hopper tickets. It worked very smoothly, and I was impressed.

I'm just speculating, but I would think they would issue you whatever ticket you already have--so if you have a hopper, you would get hoppers. If you have a one park pass, I imagine you would get a one park pass. I would be interested to learn if they do it differently.

We were just hoping to go to both parks the same day. Our WDW passes do not include the hopper option. So I'm wondering if once we go through the exchange process that you mentioned and get our 1 day pass, can we go back to the ticket booth and pay the difference to add the hopper option?

Thanks for your help!!

I can not begin to tell you how excited I am about finding this thread. I plan on taking my DS in Feb and we have NE WDW tickets. This should save us quite a bit.
