Using Disney Gift Cards Through Travel Agents

Does anyone have experience with using a Travel Agent to book their WDW package, and then using Disney Gift Cards to pay for the package? I don't have a payment option on the WDW site, and after "online chatting" with Disney, was told that it was because I used a TA, and so payments need to be made exclusively through the TA.

Do I just give my Disney Gift Card numbers to my TA, who will then make the payments on my behalf? Do they have to call Disney themselves, or do they make the payment through their own system? I would ask my TA these questions, but they are currently on their own vacation and won't be back for a couple weeks. In my "chat" with Disney, the CM said that "it depends on whether your TA accepts Disney Gift Cards as payment" and that only worried me that I wouldn't be able to use them?

Please reassure me...

The Disney CM is correct. It will depend upon the TA that you used. There is no one-size-fits-all answer.

If you can't use them to pay off your package can you hold on to them and use them as spending money when you get there?

For me, I gave my TA the G.C. number and he called Disney directly. It wasn't a problem at all. I hope it's as easy for you! :thumbsup2

I am a travel agent and my clients have given me their Disney gift card numbers for me to apply toward their package/reservation balances. It is no problem for us (at least me!) to do this!:thumbsup2

I paid the last couple hundred for our trip with a GC through my TA. She had to get the number from me and then call Disney herself because her payment screen wasn't giving her a GC option (and you can't enter it as a CC because it wants an expiration date). Not sure if she was just doing it wrong, as she said she had never taken a gift card before, or if it always has to be called in.

And the CM that you spoke to was correct, if you book through a TA, then they have to do all the payments and changes to your booking. They basically own it. The only thing I did myself was my ADR's.

Though I do wonder why some TA's wouldn't accept a gift card?? :confused3:confused:

Thanks everyone for the feedback! We visit WDW every five years or so, and in between those visits, buy and squirrel away Disney gift cards to help pay for the visit. For this trip, I have $2,000 worth of Disney gift cards and it would REALLY suck to not be able to use them to pay off the package!

We booked with AAA and paid everything off with gift cards (one has a little left over, and we plan to use that for buying food in Disney). It was easy, and they said they did it all the time. They did however, ask that we not give them a huge amount of $25 cards, as someone did this once and it took forever to process their payment:rolleyes1. The only caveat is to save the cards, because if you have to cancel (heaven forbid)...your money will be refunded onto the cards.
