Using Disney Dollars

We're heading down to DL for next week. I don't want to have to get a bunch of American cash (I'm canadian) and am planning to get some Disney Dollars when I get there. Can the Disney dollars be used the same as cash, anywhere in the park? Usually I use Visa whenever possible, but I know some of the stands don't take it.

Yes they are accepted all over.

The only little hitch is that they aren't sold everywhere. And when I bought them, I had to force the CM to really look around...they were under her cash drawer in a zippered bag.

It's nice to have those for the carts that can't take cards, but otherwise I usually go buy a heft Disney GiftCard at the start of a trip, and work off of that. Better for me than having a gazillion little debits or charges on a card, and better than carrying a ton of cash or disney dollars (though on the ladies trip I did make use of the Chase ATMs for my money needs). And if you keep the receipt but lose the giftcard, you can get the giftcard replaced...disney dollars and cash? Gone forever.

Anyway, yes they can be used. :)

Keep in mind that you get american cash back as change. They don't give Disney Dollars as change.

Very good to know!! :thumbsup2

I’m going to be getting a gift card (maybe several?) to help me save for our upcoming trips. I’m going to ad an amount on one every payday until our trips. This is awesome to know that if I do misplace it is not lost forever.

So I’m assuming the receipt has the card number on it so the lost card can be cancelled and no one can use it?

Yes, you get the receipt showing payment, and another piece of paper with the number on it. Keep them both separate from your card.

I personally like Disney Dollars because I like being able to easily and physically count how much I have (I'm also one of those people that enjoys paying for things in cash, although I'm glad I now have a debit card and I always carry a credit card in case of emergencies), plus I like saving them as souvenirs if they have a cool design on the back.

Thanks for all the quick answers.:goodvibes
I think we'll get some disney dollars when we get there. It might be nice for the kids to use that for their spening money.
It'll be cheaper to buy Disney Dollars than to pay the fees for using the bank machine in the park.
