My mother said when she was a kid they used to use the color cartoon section of the newspaper to wrap gifts, not necessarily Christmas gifts but any gifts. Have any of you ever done that?

Yes!!! Not Christmas gifts, but birthday gifts. We were going green before it was in!

When I was a child, yes, I remember doing it several times. We thought it was fun. :goodvibes I think I've done it once or twice with my kids, but we have so much school fundraiser wrapping paper around, that I don't think of using the "funnies" now. :lmao:

It was for a child's birthday gift only, btw. Usually because we didn't have any appropriate wrapping paper, but sometimes just for fun, because the recipient would like it. I remember us not ripping those, but opening them carefully so we could read the comic strips. LOL.

Not me, but when my brother and I were kids, my aunt and uncle would always do this. We always knew which present was from them at our party!

definitley BTDT.

It is a fun giftwrap!

Yes, when I was a kid. And the grandparents would use the pre-colored Sunday funnies for our gifts.

I don't remember anyone doing that, but I remember my grandmother carefully removing gift wrap and bows from any packages she received to reuse the next year. The gift wrap was a bit more durable in those days and you could carefully flatten it again and again. She was a young woman during the depression and never gave up her frugal ways.

All the time, have 2 wrapped that way right now as a matter of fact. I am 48...so now I feel REALLY old!

"Save the paper!" was the popular refrain at my house when I was a kid.

And, yes, we used the Sunday funnies sometimes to wrap birthday presents.

We did that all the time when I was a kid. We don't subscribe to the paper now so no "funnies" to use.

The only time we use the funnies, is when the gift is so big that using actual wrapping paper would cost almost as much as the gift.

DS's power wheel truck was wrapped in the funnies. His basketball backboard and pole were wrapped in the funnies.

As a kid "Santa" always brought my gifts wrapped in the funny paper! I was told it was because Santa couldn't afford to buy wrapping paper for all the gifts he had to wrap :rotfl: I loved them wrapped that way though. This is my first Christmas as a mom and I want to start some kind of tradition like that for my son's Santa gifts.

Definitely! The "funnies" are the tradition birthday wrapping paper in my family.

Exactly....we often got birthday gifts wrapped in the Sunday comics when my brother and I were kids. Hadn't thought about it since until the OP mentioned it.

I've done that a few times fr birthday gifts but not Christmas gifts. They work in a pinch.
