I have never used chalk when scrapping, but was wondering if I could just use side walk chalk or do I need to buy special chalk for scrapping? Also, does it get sprayed with anything to keep it from dusting other things?

Thanks,
Linda

Sidewalk chalk is not the same as the scrapbook chalk ( my hubby brought some , thinking the same thing ). Most people say that if you let it set up overnight that it will be fine than to put in your scrapbook . I use mine a lot and have not had any problems .

Another way to "set" chalk is to take a scrap piece of white paper and press it down on whatever you've just chalked. This will keep it from coming off. :)

If you have a Walmart near you, check out the chalks by EK Success in their scrapbook aisle. You get a triple set that stacks together and they're great colors! :teeth:

Is there some kind of a fixative spray you can use? I'm having problems with my laser printing coming off certain papers.

I went to a Stampin-up party, and was told to use hair spray to set the chalk. I have not chalked a lot, but have tried it and it worked. Use an aerosol.
Good luck!

The chalks that you need to use are the ones that can be found in scrapbook or stamping supplies. They have pigment dyes in them and set into the paper, hence you don't have much "rubbing off" after they have set for awhile. Regular street chalk won't do that. They are made from different materials.

There are several ways to apply the chalk too. Some people use the cosmetic cotton swabs. Those are the ones that are pointy at one end and round on the other. Then there's using and alligator clip on a stick and using small, white pom poms. I use that method for chalking large areas. For smaller spots or if I want to detail with a bit of a finer line I use something called a "Microbrush". That's the brand name. It's smiliar to a cotton swab but on a MUCH SMALLER scale. It's not really a cotten tip either, I'm not sure what it's made of but it works!

You can find them at hobby shops (model people use them for painting and gluing) or you can order them through here. they are even on sale.

Michelle,
Do you use several of the brushes (for different colors)?
thanks

There are several brushes to a box. They are also pretty simple to clean. You just wipe them on paper or a tissue till no color comes off the brush. (the tip will remain colored but it will not come off)

I usually have several brushes going at the same time. I'll use one for my pinks and reds, one for my blues and purples, one for my browns, blacks and grays, and one for my yellows and oranges.

After SEVERAL uses I finally throw them away.

They just work so much better when trying to get into small areas and trying to shade details. Cotton swabs loose there shape quickly and are too big for alot of the jobs and even the smallest of pom poms don't make it into the tight corners.

Thanks for the great info! I recently bought some chalks but haven't had time to sit & experiment & these brushes look like the way to go with the tiny areas. cool
