Using Banked Points

In reading the board's messages, a thought occurred to me (amazingly!) -

When we book reservations with MS, do they automatically take the banked points first, and then take the rest of the ressie points from the newer points? Or do we have to remind them to do that?

Curious...

They should take the banked first, but I would confirm it. Any time I make a reservation, I always confirm my point balances at the end (by use year). I had a really good CM when I made my last reservation, she automatically confirmed my balances every step of the way without me even asking.

It's a shame they can't make point balances, banking and ressies (you know, the little blue pills) available on-line. It would make life in DVC that much easier.

We started this year with 200 banked points and 200 current year points. I made a reservation in April using 150 points which came out of my banked points. Then in May I made another reservation for 220 points. 50 came from banked and 170 came from current year. A few weeks later I had to cancel that first reservation (still 8 months before the trip was scheduled). These points must have been put back into my banked points because when I called to bank my leftover 180 points into next year and I was told that I only had 30 points left in the current year to bank into next year and that I would have to use another 150 banked points before the end of this year! I just about panicked! There was no way that I could use those points. I plead my case to MS and they said they would request a review of my account. Just got a call back saying that they had fixed it for me.
Morals of this long story: 1) Keep track of where your points are coming out. 2) Cancel BEFORE you rebook. 3) Be thankful you're dealing with the nice people at Disney who won't try to catch you on a technicality.
