USF Promo v. Disney promo?

I posted this on another thread, but wanted to do it here as well.

You know, after reading the responses on the boards regarding the Super Bowl/Universal ticket giveaway, does it seem to you that people are more excited about this giveaway than Disney's "free bday ticket" promo? Is it because USF ran theirs as a contest and Disney's is a "promotion"? I mean, either way, one person in the party is getting a free ticket and the rest of the party has to buy tickets. I just get a lot more positive vibes regarding USF than Disney. Maybe because people expected more from Disney and they were disappointed? I really think that USF hit the mark with their giveaway by the sounds of it. People are making plans to do USF when they weren't before. People don't sound like they are going to Disney just to get the birthday ticket. Maybe b/c USF has a larger date range to use their free ticket? Just a random thought! Sorry for the rambling! :p

I entered and won in the Universal program for my fiance and myself (we are still separate households, for now anyways!)

Why am I excited about this and not the Disney free ticket on your birthday program? Because my birthday is in the middle of the week, when I am in school and I can't take vacation. With the Universal program, I get in free whenever I WANT! If I want to schedule my vacay in the middle of the summer (nowhere near my birthday) I can! If the Universal free ticket was only good for one preselected day out of the year, than I wouldn't have even tried.

Hope this helps clear things up a little, at least from my perspective.

Disney's promo is a 1 day thing. I can go to Universal for 7 days on the prize. Also, I can go in off season in the fall with the Universal. There is no way on Earth I am going to Disney OR Universal for my birthday, which is 4th of July week.

Aint gonna happen.

Willow, I won one of the USF tickets as well. I know it appealed to me way more than Disney's promo because you can use it anytime during the year. I was just interested in seeing if that's why people seem more enthused about it. Thanks!

Angela, Ugh, I know what you mean. My birthday is Aug 6th. It is WAY too hot to go to Disney in August.

I got the free ticket for US, and I actually can use it. I couldn't find my way to going to WDW on my birthday, but had planned on going to Universal before my cruise in May anyway, so it works out for me.

I really don't think it's enough to have people change their vacation plans either way. I think that if you win a ticket to US, you'll most likely take a day or two of your Orlando vacation and go there in ADDITION to your Disney trip, not instead of. And I don't think a free pass on your birthday is enough to make many people plan their trips around their birthday...it's just not enough of an incentive. So, yes, US has the better incentive, but neither offer is likely to influence my vacation plans greatly.

I also won one of the USF tickets. Like many others have stated the Disney promotion requires you to be able to travel on your birthday, which isn't possible for a lot of people. I think it might go over better if Disney said within so many days of your birthday; therefore, if you birthday was mid-week you could go on the closest weekend.
