Useing it for a cruise

We sailed on a Magic cruise year before last using points and felt like it was a very good use of points. That is really all that matters - are you happy with the value you got for your points. People keep saying you can get the cruise cheaper by paying cash and renting your points. I don't have any interest in renting points.

We're kind of in a similar situation today. Frankly after going to WDW once or twice a year for the last 10-12 years, we are completely "Disneyed" out. So I am looking at alternatives to WDW for our points. This year we went to VB. Next year I'm thinking we'll go to HHI and VB and skip WDW completely. I can easily see us booking another cruise using points. I wish the Adventures by Disney trips didn't require so many points.

I use points for cruising sometimes if I can get $7 to $8 dollars per point value. If you book for cash while on cruise you get a 10% discount (you cannot book using points on cruise), if you than switch it to points within 3 days after getting off cruise they will give you 10% discount on points needed to book cruise.

We have cruised on points and with cash. I prefer the cancellation/date change policy with cash through DCL. For the 3 and 4 night cruises the difference for us is that cash is $300-$400 cheaper factoring in on board booking, the $95 fee and the lost on board credits (this uses the $11/point rental that David's currently offers). If we had extra points it wouldn't be a big deal to use points for the shorter cruise. For a 7 night it turns in to over $1500 difference. I could rent out the points required a d pay for airfare, cruise, excursions and booze and still have money leftover.
