I know this has been asked a thousand times in a thousand different ways but I want to ask again. I am interested in dvc specifically Aulani. My family and I usually vacation either May-August or December-Feburary. I am interested in resale for maybe 125-175 points with the plan to bank and borrow and visit aulani every 2-3 years. I wanted to know what is you guys opinion as to what use year would be best for me. I am able to travel at any time throughout the yeah and my family as well but those seem to be the times that we vacation.

In your case the UY wouldn't really matter because you are listing travel dates that cover almost all of the year. We are the same way.

In this circumstance I would focus on contract price and finding a loaded contract, rather than the UY.

UY basically only matters if you need to cancel a trip late in a given UY, because it limits when you can reschedule or bank points into the future. So if you always vacationed in the summer, a spring UY would be wise- to give you plenty of time to reschedule before points expired.

It really doesn't make a difference what UY you own if you might equally vacation in any season of the calendar. Hope this makes sense to you.

A December use year would be the best for you (although I agree with the previous poster that for you, it isn't going to matter that much).

Assuming you would cancel at least 31 days prior to arrival (to avoid having points go into hold status), you would be able to bank any current use year points you used to make the reservation.

Keep in mind that you are always at risk of losing any banked or borrowed points - those two transactions cannot be undone. Banked/Borrowed points always expire at the end of the year into which they were banked or borrowed.

Understanding Use Year

Good luck with your decision and contract search. :)
