I am still confused about the use year. If we usually travel in late June, what would be good options for a use year and which months should we avoid? Thanks

June would be the best Use Year for travel during the same month. August and September would be the worst since a cancelled June reservation would mean those points would still need to be used by the end of June or July (there is no July Use Year). A cancelled June reservation with a June UY would still give you until the following May to use or bank the points by the end of January.

remember that UY month has nothing to do with when you can call to book. you can call to book at 11 months out at your home resort regardless of UY.

but when you travel in the last few months of your UY (march-april-may for a june UY), you are past your banking window after jan 31 as doc said and therefore more at risk of losing pts if you need to cancel after that.

most of my points have a dec use year...i travel mostly in early december. at exactly 11-months out from checkin, i book my ressie. for example, for points coming on dec 2012, i booked in january 2012 for my dec 12 dates. so i have those in place regardless. then i have until 10/30 or so to decide if that's really my desired use of the points...i can rebook all this year (2012) for next year (2013) as the 11-month window approaches. should my plans dramatically change after booking and changing as needed, though 10/30/2013, i can CANCEL AND BANK ANY/ALL POINTS no later than 7/30/13, making these points available through 11/30/14.

this may be too much detail, and i hope i said this right (CCCCCCOOOOOOFFFFFFFEEEE!), but i feel that the best use year month is the month that you travel most...for me it's december, for you it would be june.

key times to remember: booking can take place exactly 11-months out from checkin, ressies must be cancelled at least 31 days out from checkin, banking must be done at least four months before current points expire.
