Hi, after much research my husband and I have decided to buy resale and are having a hard time deciding on the use year, we would appreciate any help you can give us. We are looking to make either SSR or BWV home, we don't have children so we can travel anytime but we usually travel during the fall (October to December). I was thinking September or October, would this be a good choice? Would August not be a good choice? Again, thanks in advance for any help or advice you can give.

Any of those, including Aug would be fine. Since your able to travel anytime what you might want to do is pick out the time when you are least likely to travel and consider a UY that starts just after that.

If you normally travel Oct to Dec, I'd do Oct if possible, esp if you don't usually travel August/Sept. If you find a much better contract for Aug/Sept, it's worth considering but all else equal, Oct will be better as described. The other variable is whether you have kids our grandkids that might change your trip timing in the future. IF so, you might want to consider June instead to cover the summer months or just be strict on your Oct choice.

OP, you are looking at traveling during the busiest time of the year for DVC bookings. If you are wanting to go to EPCOT F&W and have a resort within walking distance, then make sure you make BWV your HR. You will need the 11 month window for booking at that location.

You want to get a use year that starts shortly before you go annually. Your usual time will be between Oct and Dec. Your most ideal use year woud normally be Oct in that situation but you can go back as early as June, and I would suggest you get Sep or Aug because anyone who would normally go in October might want to also get late Sep dates sometimes.

As noted, your usual proposed travel time is during DVC's high demand quarter at WDW which runss from late Sep to marathon weekend in Jan. The DVC demand during that quarter greatly outstrips anything during the other 8 1/2 months of the year. It sounds like your preferred resort may be BWV and you are considering buying SSR because of the lower point cost in resale. If you want to stay at BWV during that last quarter of the year, you should consider owning there because it can be difficult to get anything at BWV at 7 months out during that quarter. In fact, you can even have difficulty at times during that quarter getting either BWV standard or boardwalk view at 11 months out, although usually if you reserve exactly 11 months out you will not have an issue.

Thanks everyone for your help ☺

We have no kids so no grandkids either, will be just us unless we are nice and decide to invite another couple, lol. We are going to go with the August UY, we will watch the resale market for SSR and BWV but will more than likely end up making SSR home. Thanks again!!

We travel a lot Oct (my bday - F&W) to Dec (DW bday - xmas stuff) and we went with a Sept UY.

FWIW...

We don't like the heat so our WDW trips are limited to Oct to May. We have an Oct UY and it's perfect for those travel dates since they fall within the 8-month banking window.

Unless you'll take advantage of the standard view at BWV, SSR will be a much better value but as others have noted, if you must be at BWV then you may need to own there. However, owning at SSR you should be able to get into BWV part of the time just likely not standard.

We don't have to be at BWV, we like the area but don't have to stay there. We will watch the listings for both but will more than likely to go with SSR.

SSR will be both cheaper and a much value in the situation you've described. You'll also likely have more and better choices of contracts at SSR over BWV.
