Use Year hatred - I have to get this off my chest

I have trouble keeping it sorted out too and hate it. I have 2 memberships, so June and Aug UY. The biggest mistake, after having 2 UY, was getting BWV points direct in both UY (25 in Aug and 55 in June). We have 3 resorts and 6 contracts and 2 UY...big fat mess keeping track. And since we have to do transfers, it is so hard to figure out how to book a resie. And you cannot borrow transferred points.

I dislike UY because the resale contracts are hardly ever March. And I'm too anal to have contracts with different UY.
Almost 10% of all contracts are March. I guess that's below average with 8 months represented, but I can't imagine they're rare.

I think just for the resorts and number of points I'm interested in :) Someone at some time had it all listed out and it was interesting to see how the majority of UY were distributed for each of the resorts.

I completely understand your frustration. Our contract is also December UY and it constantly confuses me. If I had to do it over again (or if I ever get a 2nd contract) I'd try to get a January or February UY.

Interesting. Speaking of adding units...I am looking out for a thread on the new offerings on VWL if Disney do offer more points to buy. Wonder how this would work with expiry date, could you use the current VWL with this new point allocation etc discussion do you know of one Dean?
All indications are it'll be unrelated to the current resort there and it really has to be at this point. Thus it'd be no different than owning VWL and reserving at the Poly. I think one can use the Poly as a point of reference for options, points and costs just maybe slightly less for the points per villa.

Ok thanks. I was hoping you would be able to book the current VWL but thought this was a bit of a pipe dream! The only difference would be the new points would have longer expiration date. But what you suggests make sense.

They couldn't add the new resort and have a different ending date. They either have to extend VWL or make it a completely separate resort.

We have October and did not like when we took summer trips due to kids in school. Now that we go in October, November or early Dec. it is fine and works well.

we bought Oct as it worked well for us intially. then realized for annual Oct trip we couldn't start it our trips in September and get the extended day booking window. this is one of the reasons i added on a Dec UY contract but things don't always jive.

It didn't give you any of the free "insurance" in case of a late cancellation for your Sept trip but booking a Sept trip with Oct UY would not be an issue.

I have not closed yet but I created an excel spreadsheet to help track a bunch of items. Like my remaining points for that year, reminds me when I have to bank it by, purchase cost, total dues paid. TCO, and then breaks down if I had rented or booked it via cash. I also will be tracking what we ended up paying on the vacation itself. since in theory I am grandfathered in I also added a column to track any discounts on my DVC membership.

Let me see if I can figure out how to attached an example of my overview page...

You can't cross use Years when booking online

If I want a 10 day vacation to start September 25, I can book the first 5 nights but have to wait for 11 month window to book the remaining days as a separate reservation.

MS Can link the two res but have run into issues where I've had to WL especially at BWV

Okay, it's December. But that means it's really the end of November that the points expire, right? Which is kinda my point about the points... I think.

Wait... what?
If you are worried about points expireing your not taking enough vacations. Lol, we are always in point debt.

MS can book across the UY though.

Hi rickste -
Is there anyway you can screen shot your use year tab? No pressure. The legal secretary said she got all of the documents and we are closing tomorrow so I am getting quite excited to plan away!
Thanks, bristowe

yes, but you have to wait for them to open, Oct Columbus day/F&W goes fast enough that i've had to waitlist often.

believe it's a sign that i need more BW points to have a reserve banked lol

Book the 7 days with the last day such that it starts the last day of the first UY then when the dates are accessible by the reservation rules (7 days 11 months out) just call and have MS change it. You're effectively guaranteed availability for an 11 month reservation. It's a form of walking.

hmmm will try it next time, thanks.

It's a pain to have to call ms but it doesn't require you to wait list- letting others book your remaining dates. You can book the beginning of your trip and then call ms to fill in the rest when ms opens. You've blocked out anyone from booking into the next month so it doesn't matter what time of day you call as long as you call that day. I'v done this several times November into December (Dec. UY)

I have to be careful because November uses more points than the beginning of December so I can't use that walking method.
