Use year and add on

WOW, major mental snafu on my part... We need another 220 pts and planned to do a 110 pt add on this xmas (must get the current and next yrs points for a needed money savings) and then the same next xmas both direct from Disney. So as i now understand it... since we want the current and next yrs points we will need to go with a new UY and membership from our current UY and membership and then again next xmas with yet a third UY and membership. ...and then do a transfer from one 110 point contract to the other each year to get the necessary 220 points we will need each year... If i am correct then that does not seem too bad as long as they UYs are sequential i.e. February, March and April. Everything could be banked the previous September (8mo before Feb). Do they let you pick UY or do they tell you when it will be? I assume they tell you... Thanks for the education. I have been reading everything i can find about DVC and still am finding stuff i did not know and in some cases don't totally understand. :confused3

No, you don't have to go with a new UY if you buy at the correct time. For example, I have a June UY. If I had added on my new points prior to June 1st, I would have gotten 2009 points.

However, I didn't and added on last week. Since I was already in my 2010 UY, I only got 2010.

I don't know what your UY is, but when you buy, you always get current UY points.

If you added on today and wanted to still get 2009 UY points, you would have to choose a Sept, Oct, or Dec UY (as they have not yet begun their 2010 UY). Once it hits September 1st, then your choices would be down to Oct or Dec. Once Oct 1st comes, it will only be Dec and as soon as it is Dec 1st, then no UY will be eligible for 2009 points.

Hope this helps.

Ok then we are back to what i had originally thought. We have a March UY so if we buy in Dec then we can get a March UY again and will receive 2010 and once we cross over March we will get 2011 points. That is what we had originally thought. Excellent. We haven't even stayed once yet (bought Feb 2010) and we already are planning to add on the same number of points again... Thanks for the help. Just so much to absorb and process...

Yes, that is correct. You will get 2010 UY points if you add on in December because you will still be in your 2010 UY. You will then get your 2011 UY points March 1st.

Now, if you wait until January 1st to add on the points, you will only be billed for 2011 MF's on those new points.

If you add on in December, you will pay prorated 2010 dues for those December days. Just something to think about.

Mom thought of that so that is likely what we will do. Buy in the first week of January. Last xmas their deal was full price on points but a couple thousand back (depending on the amount of points). So we are hoping for a similar price this year. Thanks for the help.
