We need to pickup our rental car midday from the Hilton across from downtown Disney. we are not staying at that hotel, but would we be able to take their Hilton bus from Hollywood Studios to that hotel or do they check for hotel IDs? I know the regular Disney resort buses don't check but I wasn't sure how this one works?

Don't know the answer to your question. Just wanted to let you know that the Hilton is right across the street from the DTD bus stop so you could always just take the Disney bus there and walk over.

Also, you might want to call the Avis desk at the hotel and see if they have a courtesy shuttle they can send to come and get you. I've used that location often and the availability of the shuttle is hit and miss.

Thanks- I'm just trying to figure out the fastest way to get to the Hilton from DHS. I don't think there is a bus directly to DTD from there? Maybe is it easier to get the bus to Saratoga springs and then walk from there?

They are doing construction that has blocked a path from SSR to DTD. From DHS, I would walkvto one of the hotels, BW or BC and catch a DTD bus from that hotel. Another option if there is not a shuttle available as mentioned above is a taxi from DTD directly to the Hilton.

When I stay at the Hilton I am given a bus pass card. I assume they check them (I just drive to the park so I have never tested this)

When you check into the DTD Hilton you are advised you must show proof of being a guest to utilize the shuttle. We have always driven to the parks, can't say for certainty.

Did you call the avis location there to ask them?

Unless using avis is a necessity have you checked rates @ Dolphin or car care center?

There isn't a direct bus from DHS to DTD, though.

Thanks all. I did look into the rental offices at the Dolphin which would have been perfect since we were coming from DHS, and also the car care center, but both have exorbitant one-way rates which is what we need since we are dropping the car off in port Canaveral for our Disney cruise. Avis @ the Hilton near DTD was by far the cheapest. If anyone can confirm if they do usually check for a hotel bus pass to use their bus, that would be great. If not, I think the best is what others suggested, getting to one of the DHS area hotels and taking their DTD bus. Anyone know which is fastest (meaning the least amount of stops?)

1) The buses are paid by the hotel on a contract rate for "X" trips per day.
2) This is the way that Hilton (and other hotels) pay the private bus companies. *
3) So, yes, you must show your pass to get on board.
4) This prevents non-guests from jumping aboard and possibly taking seats from hotel guests.

BW is the shortest walk from DHS, and the last stop for the bus to DTD ... but that also means the bus may fill up and so you might have to wait for more than 1 bus.

Swan is the 1st stop and 2nd closest to DHS, but the extra 4 stops add about 15 minutes to the travel time. But you're almost guaranteed a seat, if not at the Swan then as guests get off at other stops.
