Use Express Pass for shows

I saw on Universal's website that FOTL is offered for some shows. How does this work for a show?

We used it for the Beetlejuice show and they had a separate line and started letting in the express line first. Same for the Shrek movie, you are in a separate line to a certain point so you by pass most of the people waiting.
