USAir or Delta vs. Allegiant?

We've always flown USAir or Delta from our small airport to MCO. Now that Allegiant flies into MCO this is an option for us. But after reading some threads about Allegiant I have some concerns...

We are 2 adults traveling in the middle of September. Allegiant's price per segment is about $59.00. Going through the booking process it looks like we can fly for about $300 with the priority boarding and seat selection fees. Are there other fees besides the baggage fee that may be added on? Is the baggage fee similar to that of the major airlines?

My other concern is flying during hurricane season there may be a greater risk of delays. Allegiant is only flying on M,W,F during September. The Friday night flight doesn't arrive at MCO until about 8:30. If we flew Delta or USAir we could arrive much earlier in the day and have one more day at the parks. Also if there were delays we would be stuck for several days or need to arrange other transportation. So I guess my question is, do you guys think it is worth the extra $200 to fly one of the major airlines?

Are you sure that Allegiant flies to MCO from your airport?? For us (Cedar Rapids, IA) Allegiant only flies to the Orlando/Sanford International Airport (SFB), which is about 30 miles NE of MCO. Magical Express also doesn't pick up from Sanford.

They just started flying into MCO at the beginning of this year from my airport which is TRI (Tri-Cities, TN).

Alot of people like Allegiant but I'd have concerns about an airline only flying 3 flights a week to my city. The late arrival would be a minus for me.

The late arrival is a big minus for a short trip (3-4 nights) but probably a non-issue for a long trip (14 nights).

Allegiant needs the plane in MCO for a flight originating in MCO. IF possible they will delay a flight until the weather blows over or until they can get the plane fixed.

However you'll be in trouble if they have to cancel the flight. They'll accomodate on their next flight with available seats. That could be a week. Allegiant won't pay to accomodate you on another airline. Travel insurance may not pay the cost for replacement airfare on another airline. Some do but many just pay a dollar amount toward your hotel/meal expenses.
