US to lift travel ban for foreign air travellers who show proof of vaccination

The “they don’t want us to travel” argument would maybe hold more weight with me if we weren’t welcoming travellers from all over the world with the correct vaccines and tests. I no longer wish to have my movements restricted if it’s deemed acceptable to let in literally anyone from anywhere as long as they comply with the requirements. It makes zero sense and is incredibly frustrating.

Your post is EVERYTHING!

Here in AB (yeah, that place...don't get me started, lol!), our local pharmacist told DW on Friday that if you had the AZ vaccine, you would be allowed a course of two MRna shots, for a complete re-do. It was news to DW's doctor too. We're going in tomorrow to get the first of the two. I'll see how it goes.
This is what dh and I plan to do - unless we are planning a quick trip into the US for a weekend getaway to see a nascar race or hockey game. Then we will go get our third dose of pfizer.

It's kind of like they saying " do as I say, not as I do"
I totally relate to your words. We have done everything they have asked us to do in the last 19 months. Our perspective on this is different than others because:
A - we have been working straight through for the last 19 months - even when we couldn't find appropriate ppe while working out in publc and the virus was still very new with very little knowledge about it.
B - we are fortunate not to have family members who have immunocompromised systems. If we are planning to visit grandparents - we basically isolate ourselves for 14 days prior to visiting them - only going to work and coming home and order our groceries vs going out to get them.

Why is it ok for me to be out working with the public putting ourselves as risk everyday - but this is not ok? We've played by the rules that have been set out...but I'm tired of the mixed messaging.

Not sure if it’s been posted yet but it looks like the US decided which vaccines they will accept:

“the United States will recognize any vaccines authorized by the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) or World Health Organization (WHO). That includes the following vaccines:
  • AstraZeneca
  • Johnson & Johnson
  • Moderna
  • Pfizer-BioNTech
  • Sinopharm
  • Sinovac “

No mention of mixing…

Perhaps I’m naive, but I have faith this is going to work out for us mixed dose people. It’s a question of when, and if it will be in time for everyone’s planned trips. The science is there. I’d love to think that the cdc accepting the above doses means they’ll be accepting any combination.

I think so too, and I think while it's being worked out we are getting very little info because they don't want to give information that is potentially incorrect. My husband just reminded me that with his job (municipal government) that they might know quite a bit about something but they have to stay silent until official announcements can be made. I can't see it being different provincially. It's just hard to wait after all the waiting we've already done, but I do have hope that all will work out.

The CDC has always accepted WHO approved vaccines for the purposes of considering whether someone is “fully vaccinated” and therefore subject to the CDC guidance re what activities fully vaccinated people can engage in, so no surprise re the list. Until the WHO approves mixed doses, I would be surprised if the the US does (regardless of what “data” Canada provides. Hopefully the WHO will approve mixed doses soon.

It's 42 days but only for if you are mixing Moderna/Pfizer, not if you have two doses of the same, then there is no limit (except the minimum's). At least for RCL & Carnival, and I believe the other cruiselines under those parent companies. Not sure about NCL as they have been a bit different in everything so far.

RCL has updated their vaccine policy. No longer says anything abut the 42 days.

For sailings departing from the U.S., the CDC will now recognize a mixed series of mRNA vaccines as fully vaccinated (e.g., 1 shot of Pfizer with 1 shot of Moderna, in any order). The doses must be administered a minimum of 28 days apart. The guest will be considered fully vaccinated 14 days after the final dose.

I'm assuming since cruise lines departing from US ports are accepting mixed series of mRNA vaccines (1 Pfizer, 1 Moderna), that there won't be an issue flying into the US?

Know that they say about assuming...

For the Pfizer/Moderna mix I don't think there will be a problem, it's in the WHO guidelines as well. Just the AZ/MRNA mixes that there will be problems.

Just to give some experience here in the U.S. mixing is not authorized for people who qualify as either having a booster or a 3rd dose. If you started with Moderna your 3rd dose should be with Moderna. If you had Pfizer your 3rd dose or booster should be with Pfizer. Presently that is still the going track and they are following how clinical trials were done. Over time data will help give a clearer picture. Data is also the reason that it was not authorized for boosters for all at this time as Pfizer (which is the only one approved for a booster which is not the same as a 3rd dose) did not present the data in full scope to support this, they did however agree that there are certain populations who may benefit from a booster and approved for those certain populations.

You meet all the requirements, if you had Pfizer/Moderna. At least in terms of RCL.

Perfect, Thank you!! All of this makes my brain hurt trying to keep track.
