US balks at backing condemnation of anti-gay laws

By DAVID CRARY, AP

UNITED NATIONS -Alone among major Western nations, the United States has refused to sign a declaration presented Thursday at the United Nations calling for worldwide decriminalization of homosexuality.

I heard this on the news this morning while I was getting ready for work. I guess it doesn't surprise me that we as a nation responded this way. It would be too much to ask our country to join others in the fight against decriminalization of homosexuality. *insert sarcasm*

I'm with you. I hope once the new administration is in, we'll respond the right way to this.

Saw this too, can we get any more backwards in this country?

According to some of the declaration's backers, U.S. officials expressed concern in private talks that some parts of the declaration might be problematic in committing the federal government on matters that fall under state jurisdiction. In numerous states, landlords and private employers are allowed to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation; on the federal level, gays are not allowed to serve openly in the military.

I'm gettin' real tired of hearin' how states have their right to discriminate.

Just when you think you've seen it all this administration proves ones again that it's (insert cuss words here).

I think that sums it up about as good as you can.

I need to scream ! Am I still living in America the land of the free ?

AAGGGGHHHHH !

Obama please make a difference in 2009, some beliefs still pushed by the current administration are such an embarassment to deal with.

I must calm down, I need hot chocolate. Cookies too. Heck whipped cream topping as well. Ahhhh, I feel better now.

Flippin' idiotic and just another example of how puritanical this country is and how our piece of crap government enforces its will on tax paying citizens by way of denying rights AND not protecting those that need it.
