I am leaving April 20th on US Airways from Philly to Orlando. I have never flow with US. I hear bad reviews about them with luggage. Is it that bad????Do they really lose alot of checked luggage? I hope not.
Thanks all......

15 days till opening day....Go Fightn' Phils......

I fly quite a bit and never had a problem with luggage. PHL is also much better than it used to be.

I've flown US Airways 4 times to Disney since 2001 and never had a problem. No lost luggage or anything. I'm reluctant to fly any other airline.

We did have 1 piece of luggage not make it on our plane, but there are so many USAir flights from Philly to MCO, it made it on the next plane, and it was delivered to our hotel before we got back from dinner.

The Philly problem we've run into frequently is when we get home....we've waited up to 2 hours for our luggage. UGH!! :sad2:

Have flown USAirways many, many times, and to be honest it's hit or miss whether you'll have problems with your luggage. ON 2 trips all of our check-in luggage was lost - 2 years now and still haven't gotten it. If you can get away with just carry-on's I would suggest that. As a previous post states most of the trouble is with inbound to PHL. Wait for luggage can be quite long, and still no guarantee that it'll arrive. Going to MCO never had a problem. USAIRWAYS is working to rectify the problems in Philly, but still has a way to go. Good Luck and have a good trip!

I flew US over 50,000 miles last year and only had 1 luggage problem - which involved PHL. I was flying MSP-PHL-PIT. The MSP-PHL flight was long delayed due to weather in PHL (rain). I had to connect to a different flight in PHL, my luggage did not make it. It was delivered to my home the next day.

The last time I flew US AIR (IAD-BOS), my luggage was not loaded on the plane. I did receive it at home 24 hours later.

I fly them all the time. Out of 50+ flights, they have lost my luggage once. They delivered it to my hous the next day. My only complaint with US Airways is the time you have to wait in Philly to retrieve your luggage. It takes them forever to get it off the plane and on the conveyor. :sad2:

we've flown with US Air a few times in the past. However, because of the last time we flew with them we will NEVER fly US Air again. When we were going to check in our luggage (September 2006), we both had our cell phones in hand. the person who checks the bags told us we had to put our phones in checked luggage, we weren't allowed to carry them on (which I thought was weird and wrong but we couldn't argue). When we arrived in Tampa, we went into our luggage to take the phones out, however, my fiancee's phone was gone (we had just bought this phone 4 days before) along with his brand new electric razor/shaver. We filed a complaint with US Air and with the Office of Consumer Affairs in the Department of Transportation, however, they told us there was nothing they could do and that the bag checkers are supervised (obviously not good enough if someone was able to steal our belongings!). Nothing was ever done about this incident which I think is very poor customer service on US Air's part, but what can we do except not fly with US Air again!?!

Hi neighbor! We are flying USAIR on April 25th. Good luck to you! What flight are you on?

We flew US last August Syracuse-Phillie-Orlando return and they didn't lose any luggage. There were 5 of us so we had lots of bags. We were delayed in Phillie on the way home due to the hurricane but that wasn't US's fault. I think it is hit and miss with all the airlines actually. I've flown on direct flights elsewhere and had lost luggage......it just doesn't seem to matter sometimes. As travellers we can only hope that we arrive safely to our destinations with luggage in tow. :thumbsup2

Did you check in curbside or at the inside counter? The outside curbside check is run by an outside company, not the airline.

we checked in at the inside counter, which i thought we'd be safer doing but apparently not. it really stinks too because i liked flying US Air - just not anymore and now we've learned a lesson to not put any valuables in checked luggage - it'll all go on carry-on with us.

Of course you could have argued. You knew this information was wrong; you should have requested to speak with a supervisor.

Hi Neighbor! Good luck with US "Scare". You couldn't pay me to fly them. The last 3 times we flew with them they either lost the luggage or totally destroyed it. They would do nothing about the suitcase (expensive Samsonite) that their "handler" destroyed. We flew American Airlines and had a suitcase damaged and they gave us a brand new suitcase. We now fly Airtran whenever possible. I know things happen with every airline but US Air has the WORST customer service ever. We have never had luggage lost or damaged on Airtran (knock wood). I also agree with what other people said about the luggage taking FOREVER to arrive on the carousel. Don't bother rushing off of the plane, take you time as you will have a long........wait for the luggage in Philly. US Air also has some of the rudest flight attendants I have every experienced. Have a great trip!

I fly US Air most of the time. They are popular for screw ups at the Philadelphia Airport, but I have never had any problems with them. I've had to wait about an hour for my luggage after landing at PHL...but that's the worst of it. We are flying out of Philly on April 25th and I'm hoping for no problems :)

Okay, so I've been waiting on the sidelines, reading all the pro/con posts about USNightmare, and here's my story...

I was a Gold Preferred Dividend Miles customer on that airline, having been loyal since the time of the Republic Airlines merger. However, I've experienced exceeding poor service all too often with them. There's a billboard along I-95 in front of PHL stating how their employees are fed-up with that company, and now that sentiment has flowed over to this once-loyal customer.

Two examples of the latest experiences with USNightmare:

 Having to fly R/T from PHL to PVD weekly for 10 weeks, USNightmare lost my luggage 6 times Northbound, and 4 times Southbound. All flights were non-stop on USNightmare equipment. For a week-long trip (Sunday night to Friday night), my luggage took an average of 2 days to find its way to me. I was never offered any complimentary shaving kit, or anything else for my inconvenience. (Yeah, I know....they don't have to offer beans. However consider possibly doing the "right thing" for a customer.)

 My wife is taking me on an Alaskan cruise vacation to celebrate my birthday this May. Having made our flight arrangements apart from the cruise ressie, she booked flights accomodating not only our business schedules, but that of the cruise as well. Everything was booked, and we would have enough time for some sightseeing in Alaska prior to the cruise...until USNightmare decided to change their schedule.

Incredibly, USNightmare rebooked us onto an outbound flight scheduled to arrive after the cruise departed...without notifying us. (I simply happened to check our ressie on-line.) When calling their "customer service" number (and reaching an off-shore call center), I was told there was nothing USNightmare could do for me. Even when I pointed out USNightmare policy is to allow 72 hours for me to accept or decline the flight changes (something USNighmare did not do), the conversation turned to cold indifference on the call center's part. I escalated to a Manager, who was more rude than the call center agent. He told me he would (not could...would) do nothing, he spoke over me at every opportunity, and when I asked to be connected with his supervision he became even more rude. After a lot of back-and-forth, the call center manager finally offered to refund my money in-full. However, this would leave me with the only option of rebooking on another airline with higher ticket costs (about $400.00 more for two people).

(Having said this, allow me to point out to the gentle readers of my post, I realize call center agents, their management, ticket agents, gate agents, flight attendant personnel, pilots, et cetera, hold the key to a smooth relationship with an airline. In other words, you simply don't purposefully try to anger them. So, I was very professional in all my dealings with the call center personnel.)

USNightmare did not follow their 72-hour rule, I got my money back but I had to pay the difference for a competitor's tickets (..a competitor who USNightmare code-shares with).

I will never give my business to USNightmare in the future. There are other examples of how this airline has gotten terrible, but I'm already off-Disney-topic (sorry moderators!).

Thank you for allowing me to vent..... ah, I feel better already...
