We leave on a cruise the day after Easter next year and airfare is just coming out now. Flying from either Cleveland or Detroit, and planning on flying down on Easter and home the Saturday after, airfare is even more painful than I imagined. The best rates for Cleveland to MCO are $415 with one stop on Delta, 655 from Detroit (I'm near Toledo so either one is fine). All of these are with one stop except the one from Detroit.
I have found a Detroit-MCO (one stop) on US Air for $352, but I have not flown on US Air since 2000 so I'm looking for some feedback. Are they a decent airline? I have only used Delta or Southwest for the last 5 years or more.
OR...should I just wait for the Southwest March/April fares to be released?

Wait for Southwest. We don't fly on anyone else. No bag or change fees. We have already changed our flight 3 times with no change fees. Only the difference in the fare.

The name of the airline is actually US Airways.

US Airways is merging with American Airlines and the merger is supposed to be completed in 2016. Mergers cause a lot of problems, so I would personally look at another airline for a flight next Easter.

I fly USair often, as our local airport is one of their hubs. (And once you have status you might as well stick with them.) They are about the same servicewise as Delta. I haven't seen any hiccups as they merge with AA.

The merger was approved and completed in December of 2013. The FAA granted the operating certificate for US Airways and American to operate as one entity on April 15, 2015. For the next 3 1/2 years, they will operate flights under their respective nameplates. In Dec 2018, look for all flights to be operated under one name, most likely American Airlines.

No need to worry for Easter of 2016.

They change flight times often. I bought a ticket to go to DL in August when they first came out last September. My departure time has changed from 8:00am to 10:00am to 6:30am. I am coordinating arrival times with a friend from another state and it's messed up. It's the only non-stop so changing flights really isn't an option.

They have merged their frequent flyer programs under American and are repainting the planes. I would be shocked if it takes until 2018 to operate as one airline.

I would be too but as part of securing Govt approval for the merger, they needed to operate each nameplate separately for a period of 5 years. That was from Dec of 2013. So, by agreement, the earliest they can "fully" merge is Dec of 2018. They dropped from the Star Alliance the end of March last year and hooked up with Oneworld which has a whole bunch of international members along with AA form the US.

Most legacy carriers change flight time often. I was referring to issues due to the merger which was mentioned by another poster.

I don't feel that US airways is any different than Delta. I fly them a lot and have no problems.

I think I'm going to wait for Southwest. My minimum price I'm getting is $350 on USair, $390 on Delta (from Cleveland--from Detroit Delta is still $600 each or more). So I figure even if Southwest is $410 each, I'll get the same deal since baggage will be free and would cost $60 each ($30 coming and $30 going) on Delta, at least. We will all 3 need bags for the cruise. I've also decided to return on Saturday and spend one night at a DVC resort, but no parks--probably OKW or SSR so we can head to disney springs.

No way it will take until December 2018 for US Airways and American to fly under one name (yes, it will be American). I have read predictions that this will happen by the end of this year.

The most recent information is that there will be a transition to a single reservation system as early as this October, 2015. The transition will start 90 days prior, (I.e., July 2015) when U.S. Air will stop booking flights more than 90 days out. Flyers already booked on US after the transition date will be reticketed on the same AA flight. Although you would not know it from reading the DIS, only about 10% of flyers book more than 90 days in advance.
