I am flying with a child who i am not the legal guardian of (he's my godson, and 6 yo)

I was wondering if I would need any sort of documentation when checking in and we both have different names.

Flying from Bristol to Paris 1st April

I was just wondering if anyone had a similar experience to this?

Thanks alot

Hi,

When I took my niece (different surname) with us on BMI baby to CDG airport last November, I got niece's mum to write me a letter, saying she gave permission for my niece to travel with me, and our destination and dates of travel. I carried the letter with me, but was never asked for it, and had no trouble at check in or passport control, either here or at CDG.

Hope this helps,

Elaine

Yes, I think you need an authorisation in writing from his parents/guardians. Hopefully it won't be a hassle for them to do that.

We were looking into those things when I wanted to send my DD1 to Macedonia with my mum (I'm from Macedonia). It's just one of those things they'll ask at the airport security.

ps. I can look more about those things and post, I remember saving the link...

Obviously he will need his own passport, I would check with the airline what their requirements are, you might need some kind of letter from the parent authorising him to travel with you, I suspect?

Have a great time, is it your first visit? Where are you staying?

We are staying at explorers and its my first time going as the 'adult' although I have been a few times before.

Thanx for all the info, if got his passport/ehic card il just get a letter written by his mother.

We are going with a friend of mine from work and her two kids. Between the 5 of us we have 4 different surnames!! Lol

Glad you brought this up as im taking my niece in august ,will get a letter from her mum just in case ,surely many familys take there childrens cousins/friends away with them any body know how this works

Well as I said, I had no problems at all, anywhere on our trip. No-one asked for the letter I had with me. No problems at check-in at either airport, nor security/passport control, nor at the hotel.

I just thought it was best to have written permission with me, from niece's mum.

I'd been wondering about this too, as I'm thinking of taking my niece again, if she'll come with me that is ;)
We were in the car the other day and she says:
I think it's about time we went to Disneyland again,
So do I, when shall we go ?
Well we could go tonight, we don't have to take mum & dad with us. :rotfl:

I don't need anymore encouragement than that. :yay:

I've seen this question crop up quite often on the UK Trip Planning board. The replies advise to have a letter from the child/children's parents, as Elaine did. I don't know if anyone has ever needed to show the letter but if you've got it with you, you're covered. :thumbsup2
