URGENT Aug 31 Banking Deadline Question....Helppp!!!!!

I can't believe how much I've confused myself!! Maybe someone can help??

We have March UY. We currently have ZERO pts (used all for 'current' UY for our visit this past June.)

Our next allottment of pts are issued March 2006. We only travel to WDW in June/July every year for now.

1. We are not sure what are plans are for 2006. Must we BANK now (by AUG 31) for this upcoming allottment to 'protect' these pts in case we don't travel until June 2007?

2. If we do BANK them, can we end up using them June 2006 (assuming availability, of course) anyway once plans are firmed up?

3. If I reserve NOW (before Aug 31 BANKING deadline) am I essentially BORROWING from my 'next' year's allottment???

Sorry to be such a ditz! Summer brain-fog!...or else the beginning of many SENIOR MOMENTS to come!

If you have used all your current points (March 2005), then you can not bank any 2006 points until March 1, 2006. You don't have those points until then. Remember that you can make a reservation 11 months from your check out date...It has nothing to do with your use year. If you choose to make a trip in say, September of 2006, you can make those reservations now. If you choose not to travel until after March 1, 2007, you should bank all of your 2006 points on March 1, 2006.

If you used all of your March 2005 UY points when you took your June 2005 vacation, then you have no points left to "bank" for next UY. You will receive your next set of points in March 2006. You should now be able to book your June 2006 vacation at your "home" resort since it is 11 months out (You'll have to wait until some time in November to book your "non-home" resort - 7 months out). You aren't technically "borrowing" points when you book your June 2006 vacation because you are booking a vacation within your new UY.

Banking is when you move points you have left over in your current UY to the next UY.
Borrowing is when you take points out of your next UY and use them in your current UY for travel.

I believe you have a six-month period to decide to bank 100% of your points, so you could wait and see if you can take your June/July 2006 trip and then you'd still have time (I think until August 2006) to bank 100% in the first six months of your March 2006 UY.

August 31, 2005 is the 100% banking deadline to bank your 2005 points. But you've already used all those points. You have until Aug 31, 2006 to bank your 2006 points into 2007

You don't need to bank until Aug 2006, so don't bank until then. That way they're available for a June 2006 vacation should you want one. If you don't go in June 2006, that still gives you 3-months before Aug 31st 2006 to bank the points

You're not borrowing anything. A vacation in June 2006 will use your March 2006 points. So you'd be using your regular point allocation. It's only if you want to take a vacation sometime prior to March 1, 2006, that you would be borrowing 2006 points in order to use them within your 2005 use year (Mar 1, 2005 through Feb 28, 2006)

Remember, any vacation you take between March 1, 2006 and Feb 28th, 2007 will use your regular allocated 2006 points. When you call and reserve the vacation has nothing to do with what year the points come from. It's the actual DATE of the vacation itself that determines the points' use year.

If you called today to make a vacation in June 2006, MS would simply allocate the points that you will be receiving in Mar 2006 and apply them toward that vacation.

1. You cannot bank the March 2006 points until you actually receive them in March 2006.

2.If you bank your points, and then decide to travel in that sam Use Year, you technically borrow points from next year's contract. For example-if you bank all of your March 2006 points into 2007, then in October 2006 decide to go to WDW, you will actually use points borrowed from your 2007 Use Year. That's OK though, because you will still have the banked 2006 points to use in 2007.

3. Yes..if you book now, you will be booking using borrowed 2006 Use Year points. be careful about oding that, because if you have to cancel or change that trip, the rules are different for using "returned" points.

That is true ONLY if the 2006 points are used to make a reservation for a date prior to March, 2006. For a trip in June, 2006 - they are simply current points and would be returned to that Use Year to be used or banked- subject to normal deadlines. Trips between March 1, 2006 and July 28, 2006 can be booked right now using "current" 2006 points- even though the 2005 points have already been used. As long as the points will be current for the dates reserved, they do not need to be borrowed to make the reservation.

If no trip will be made in 2006 and you wish to use the March, 2006 points for a trip in June, 2007- then the 2006 points will need to be banked sometime between March 1 and August 31, 2006.
