I don't think it's as bad as it used to be, but I'm sure plenty of it still goes on.

But you're right, it's just awful behavior. Unfortunately it's very indicitive of the direction we are heading as a society..."screw everyone else as long as I get mine!". You see it everyday, everywhere these days. Also, what's just about as bad is when the people who do it then try to justify/rationalize it with this type of line: "the person who picks up our cancellation at the last minute gets some pixie dust". No, they don't. More likely, it's someone who had to spend tons of hours stalking the site and/or calling the dining line before they finally got the ADR they could have gotten 5.5 months earlier if not for the selfish practices of others.

Now, Disney shares some of the blame for this as well. As I've stated countelss times, I believe the 180-day policy is completely ludicrous and brings about such behavior. If it were less, some may not feel the need to do it because they possibly could have their plans nailed down better. Also, the ability to do it would be diminished since there would theoretically be less availability (and more competition).

Thank goodness that there are people out there that agree with me. LOL. I feel like everyone thinks I'm so awful for saying what I thought and how I think it's upsetting. I agree 100% with everything you have said. It just REALLY frustrated me this morning when I saw someone cancelling 7 reservations on the one day and 6 reservations for another day. It is unfair to those who are trying to properly plan their trips in advance. I know I spend countless hours checking constantly to get the resos that I want and the exact times I would like them. Thank you so much for your comment.

Can someone please explain to me why people make like 10 different reservations for the same day for every day of their trip and then cancel them the week before their trip?

Because Disney's fixed it so that they have to pay if they don't cancel them.

Previously they would make 10 different reservations for every day of their trip and then just not show up for 9 of them.

Now it's an improvement, at least they do have to cancel. Sorry, it doesn't upset me that people book like this - so long as they do cancel when they figure out what they won't be using.

I called and made a reservation for the exact time on the same day and the dining agent didn't mention the other reso or ask if I wanted to cancel it. I cancelled it as soon as I got off the phone.

Because there is a possibility that a party might want to split up for meals. So they allow it if you're calling. The online system doesn't allow it.

Wish they'd go back to the days of no ADRS. The only preplanned meals were HDDR and the Luau. Everything else was walkup. So much more relaxed then.

Yep it can be frustrating especially if you don't plan your trip 6 months in advance....We started planning for our June trip in March and I've been able to get everything we want but I've had to stalk the ressie boards ...It kind of sucks the fun out of planning and makes it more of a obsessive chore at times ...I hate feeling overwhelmed with it all. I really wish that Disney would change the ADR planning back to something more realistic like 90 or 60 days.

This trip is a split trip for us at Universal and Disney and I will admit I am looking forward to Universal part of the trip more then Disney this time because the pre planning for a disney trip has worn me out.

Will agree with you here. If Disney is going to force me to plan my dinners 6 months out, sometimes double booking is needed since I have no idea what park I will be at yet. I will admit to booking 4 extras that I know we wont need, that I will cancel , but right now I'm not sure yet which day we will be at that park. We are also going to sea world and universal a couple of days, and not sure when so left some room for switching. I don't have multiples for the same day, just some on days that I already have them so I can change park days. It has already helped me once, as we had no idea the MNSSHP dates when we made ADR's and don't plan on going to MK on a party day because of shortened hours. We had CP booked on a party date and had to move MK to another day, and if I had not booked CP twice, would never have got it later. I don't book a huge amount of extra, but did do 4 of our must-do's, just in case. A Disney trip is not complete without Ohana dinner, CP lunch, and DD would die if she couldn't see Sofia and Doc at H&V. Also double booked Fantasmic dinner package for both HS nights, because lets face it, its September and the chance of rain is high. I figure I will have a good idea of weather the day or 2 before, and then will cancel.

We did this as well on our trip for specific reservations. I wanted BOG and wasn't sure what day especially since tomorrowland terrace wasn't released yet. I also didn't know if we'd want dinner or just cupcakes and drinks at BOG so had an early time and a late one. Same for CRT and CM. As our trip got closer and plans started to fall into place better I was able to cancel. I agree if WDW is going to make you book so far in advance, stagger release dates of other reservations then you have to do what you have to do. Sorry, but when it comes to my vacation I am a little selfish. I want to do certain things and if that means double booking or even paying extra fees to do them I'm good with it. Everyone has the same opportunity to book, so if you don't get a reservation that you want it is just the luck of the draw and not the fault of other people.

That is not true, it is the fault of the other people b/c if everyone would stop booking extra reservations that they aren't going to use then most people would be able to get the reservations that they wanted. I booked my trip at the 180+10, and had everything preplanned and knew exactly which reservations that I wanted and I still didn't get the ones that I wanted and had to do some shifting around of my plans. I do understand the need to book a couple extra just incase your plans change, but it IS selfish to book a BOG reservation everyday of your trip until you decide which day you are actually going to go, especially if you are being cheap and just going for drinks and cupcakes.

I didn't realize there was a minimum acceptable order. I'm sorry, you can disagree with what others do and that's fine. You can even express your opinion in a civilized way and that's fine. But once you result to name calling you lose credibility.

I wasn't name calling I was stating a fact. Sorry if it offends you or anyone else. I was just stating my opinion. If you are one of those justifiers and make all sorts of reservations then I guess that is up to you. Everyone is entitled to do it apparently. Next year I'll be sure to book 500 reservations and then decide the week before my trip which 5 I will use. Then maybe you'll have trouble getting a reservation and understand everyone elses frustration.

:lmao: Thanks for the laugh...now you are not allowed to eat somewhere unless you order a specific dollar amount or you are deemed selfish. I didn't realize there were so many rules you have to follow to use an ADR. I guess it selfish for a party of 3 to eat at BOG when they are clearly using a table with 4 chairs. That is 1 extra person that could be eating at all those tables and selfish and unfair to all the party of four people who didn't get a reservation ;) Also I didn't say I booked it every day of my trip, but my MK days I did.

It is really a debate similar to what came first the chicken or the egg. I say it is the fact you have to plan so far out that you have to book multiple days and sorry, I didn't know what day I'd have TT and wasn't going to risk my BOG day fell on my TT day and then be stuck picking. I wanted both, got on early enough to get both. I was lucky and would have been fine had I not gotten it.

Thank you...maybe it is regional, but I've never heard of going out for drinks and dessert being cheap:confused3

I would argue that saying someone is "cheap" is name calling, but I guess that's just me. You call it a fact; I call it a nasty judgment.

And feel free to make all the reservations you want! Just be sure you order enough that the bill is higher than the acceptable minimum---whatever you've deemed that is!

I totally agree with you as well. While the 180-day out reservations may be a pain, it doesnt give people the right to double and triple book, and YES they are doing it quite a bit from looking at the boards. We may change our plans and if we do, then we will try to find reservations that are left, not double or triple book. Just because a system allows you to do something doesn't mean it is right. I talked to a CM about this while changing a reservation and she said it is a problem, and Disney is trying to deal with it, but there are always ways to get around the system!

I totally agree too......Glad to hear that Disney is aware of it....hopefully something can be done to prevent so many multiple bookings but like you said there are always some who will find a way around it....cause gosh darn their trip is so much more important than the thousands of others who are planning ;)

You were for sure name calling...you called me cheap. Clearly you have some deep resentment that you were not able to get a reservation at BOG and for that I do feel bad, but to dictate how someone should be ordering is ridiculous. You have every right to make 500 reservations if the system allows it and you want to give your cc to guarantee that many. I made 4 reservations on our week long trip we ended up not using. I cancelled 3 b/c my brother's family was down at the same time and used our extra BOG. Hopefully they ordered the acceptable amount or my whole family will be deemed cheap.

I just want to add our waitress there was amazing, we had seats in front of the window where you can watch it snowing and she was showing the kids outside the window, she gave the kids grey stuff(this was before you could order it), gave my dd a rose made of a napkin to take home and made our whole experience extra special. Our bill was around $80 and we tipped her $40 b/c of how special she made it, so I'd say we are far from cheap.

Wow! These boards are some of the most interesting/entertaining reading I do these days. I thought I was just coming to get helpful hints on how to navigate WDW and my Disney cruise. Not so. I'm getting a lesson in human interactions. :duck:
