Upsell rates??? UPDATE!!!!!

My dh and dd decided 2 weeks that they wanted to go to WDW while me and my son where there with his h.s. band. I tried getting into All Star Sports and it was booked. I was offered the same price of a Preferred room for $119 for either Coronado or POR. They got POR. This was 2003.

4 years later I paid $184 plus tax for the same time period. There are absolutely no discounts the week before or after Easter for anyone except maybe AAA members or maybe Annual Passholders, but nothing else.

I was able to make a package ressie and they didnt require the $200 dep right then. I had 14 days to pay it or my ressie would be cancelled. HTH, Steph

Just to clear up some confusion. For those who want the definition of what an upsell offer is. The scenario (in the computer) goes something like this -
you call for a value or moderate room during a time when that hotel is very busy or sold out. The computer sees this and also sees that your dates have too much availability in the higher priced room categories or at a deluxe. So the reasoning is to offer you the higher priced room at a reduced rate (bodies in a room are better than an otherwise empty room, even at a dramatic discount; this helps the deluxe resort out). Meanwhile the room you originally asked about is freed up for the next guy that calls (the computer knows that the lower priced hotel you asked about is going to sell out regardless).
Also, my understanding is that you are more likely to be offered the less popular deluxes than one which is very busy (like the Poly in an above example, would not have been offered; or maybe the WL because it is small, less expensive, and very popular, but YC/BC and GF are more expensive and therefore may be harder to fill?)
I'm no expert, but it stands to reason that during low season this may happen more than during summer or regular season. Simply because the overall occupancy is lower and they would want you to pay as much as possible.

HTH!

Twice recently I've been offered an upsell to Saratoga Springs. The price quoted is not that much of a savings over the regular price and it's $1000 more than I'm currently paying at the Pop. No thanks! I'll holding out hope for an upsell to AKL or WL!

Maybe you should just grab it and then try and change resorts. If it doesn't work you could just cancel. I changed resorts with my upsell rate no problem at all.

Wow, this has been very educational! We've been so many times & never had an upsell. I think I'll call tomorrow & see what happens when they look up our ressie. Sounds like it doesn't hurt to ask questions! Thanks for all the info.:thumbsup2

I just got an upsell today on my AKL trip in July. We went from a standard view room at AKL to a theme park view at GF--I am so excited!!!

How much more was the upsell. Did you have to pay anymore OOP? What are your travel dates?

I posted somewhere.. not sure which thread, that I got the upsell price from:

POFQ $1673 room rate only (AAA Rates)
10 nights 1 Adult 1 Child
June 19 - June 29
to:
POR $1949 package w/dining 1 day base MYW (we have APs).
10 nights 1 Adult 1 Child
June 23 - July 3

I thought that was a great price! BUT I also got offered a price for
Beach Club $3054 package w/dining 1 day base MYW
10 nights 1 Adult 1 Child
June 23 - July 3

I had turned it down and took POR.

We've never stayed at the Beach Club before, and I know my DD would LOVE SAB, so after a lot of thought I called back this morning and asked if it was still available, it was and I took it.

So it's $1000 more... I don't know if this is a really good price for the "true" luxury resorts. We've stayed at AKL several times and WL once, but no other Deluxes.
Since we will be arriving on June 13th and staying off property, by the time we check in to the Beach Club on the 23rd I think we'll be better able to enjoy all the resort amenities since we'll be tiring down.

I guess I'm hoping people tell me I did the right thing..lol. Is this resort worth it?

I originally had ressies from the begining of our vacation (first the 9th, now the 13th)... but cancelled them, rescheduled, changed them... ect. I think when I asked about the upsell that is why it was accepted (?). Since our dates are very flexible I took when I could get the best rates.
Today was the payment due date and I'm all paid up.. but I would love to hear people's opinion on the BC.. is it really nice?

I think if I try changing to AKL or WL the price would wind up pretty darn close to the mod package since the true deluxe's prices tend to start about $100 more a night than mods. I haven't checked and don't want to.. still trying to keep the BC justification going :) I want to try it!

Good Luck with everyone else getting their Upsell prices!

I had one for Saratogo Springs. Eight nights/5 day base tickets, and dining for $3200. Our dates were June 19-27th. I ended up not doing it. Port Orleans I would do in a heartbeat.:goodvibes

Can't you get the POR? It was what I was originally offered. They offered the BC afterwards. My price for 10 nights/dining 1 day base MYW is above. The dates are close to yours too.

If you do really want the PO.. I would keep calling :)

Good Luck!

I've called twice and have been told both times that that is the only resort offered. Also, now it's to late the discount is gone already.

I missed out on all the code excitement (the one day I don't log on......I'm still kicking myself!!!) Anyway, I was just offered an upsell at BWI, but really am not head over heels over BWI. I asked about BC, but the CM only offered BWI. I held it, and will talk it over w/ DH. Not sure, maybe we'll just stick with WL AAA.

I am traveling on July 16 and had 5 day MYW +hopper and dining at AKL standard view room for about $2600, I got GF Magic Kingdom View for about $250 more for upsell. Definitely worth it in my view !!! The rack rates on those two rooms during value season are $215 AKl and $465 GF! I feel very fortuante to have gotten GF! My 12 year old DS is so excited to see the castle from our balcony! :cool1:
Is the code closed now?

I was told I couldn't hold mine! I guess the girl was trying to get me to book now! That ticks me off!:confused3

Codes? I thought these were just offers the CMs gave you over the phone trying to get you to "up" your resort for little extra $$$.

I have been trying to get my sister to get over here so I can call & have her doing the caculator at the same time so we can decide if it is a deal.... IF we get offered anything!!! :) Maybe I'll just call myself & try to do the math.
