UPH v. DVC UPH

Here's one for you -- any response would be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!

We are literally stuck in the middle: We are not DVC members, but traded into the DVC property at the Beach Club. I have spent all day trying to attach a UPH to our reservation. I am told by the people at DVC that we have to work through the central reservations for the UPH.

I just got off the phone [for the umpteenth time] with CR -- they tell me that we are not able to purchase a UPH through them because we "don't really have a regular room." I was told that we have to purchase the UPH when we check in at the Beach Club. Further, we have to pay full price [because we can't purchase it ahead of time] and we don' get the 10% DVC member discount [because we are not really DVC members].

Talk about being between a rock and a hard place! Any suggestions?

DVC members cannot Advance Purchase the UPH. It needs to be purchased at check-in.

That said, DVC members are eligible for a 10% discount off of the UPH. Even though you are renting points, this discount will probably be offered to you as well. But it will be 10% off of the Gate prices, not the Advance Purchase.

Even if you were a full-fledged DVC member, the above would still apply (except you'd be guaranteed the discount).

Thanks jaysue and tjkraz for your advice. I will post this on the DVC board.

My thought is that if you are a DVC member [and I am not] you get the 10% DVC discount. If you are not a DVC member, and you are staying on property, you should be able to purchase the UPH in advance just like everyone else who is purchasing a room on property.

Right?

I will continue to pursue this and get back to you with any results.
