i have never upgraded a ticket but i think you can do it or you could cancell and order ap ticket instead. when ordering ap ticket me my dh and ds13 all have annual pass but we didnt renew so i just ordered new ones for a upcoming trip 9/15, they send you a voucher and you bring it to any ticket center to receive your new pass. you can call and get the ap room rate when it comes available but you wont be able to access the web site until you have your actual ap number. they will give you the rate over the phone, they have checked several resorts at the sametime but you will need your ap when checking into the hotel to receive the ap rate. it is definately worth it!! you also get discounts on food and merchandise. we are using our dvc for 09/16-09/23 and using ap rate for 09/15 got $54 a night at all star music, we are arriving late so didnt want to spend the extra money for the bcv just to sleep. the ap is one of the best savings we have done even if only one of you in your party purchases the ap and the rest stay with the 7 day ticket it, you will be able to get discounts on room rates, food, and merchandise for up to a party of 8, i think 8. good luck and have a great vacation.
