Upgrading Tier 2 Park Hopper to a Tier 5 Park Hopper

Can I do this ahead of time somehow, or do I have to do it in person at the ticket booth?

Through the Chat feature in the app, I was told to purchase the Tier 5 Park Hoppers first, then they would refund the price of the Tier 2 Park Hoppers. I bought the Tier 2 tix with gift cards. The refund will go the credit card they have on file. Should show up within 14 days.

I suspect in person at ticket booth. I called yesterday (on hold for over an hour) to ask about upgrading a 3-day one-park-per-day ticket to a 3-day park hopper and was told I must do it in person at the ticket booth. I then went on Chat on the Disneyland app to see if I would get a different answer. I got into some sort of Chat queue and heard back from a cast member this morning that I could only do it in person at the ticket booth. Maybe try the Chat on the app if you don't want to wait forever on the phone to get a more definitive answer.

Thank you. I was worried that would be the only way. It is really infuriating to have that be my only option with the reservation system in place, and living out of state. To expect people to take a chance that the new date they want to use their ticket will be available "day of" is absolutely ridiculous.

I agree it's totally ridiculous. The cast member assurred me that they won't upgrade and charge me if there's no park hopper availability on my days when I get there...as if it were a good thing!

Well, at your suggestion I reached out through the Chat feature in the app. Hopefully there is some way around this. It took 2 days to get a response the last time I used the Chat feature. Hope it doesn't take as long this time.

You can’t upgrade but from my understanding it is possible to get a refund on the first ticket and then buy an entirely new ticket and I believe it can be done over the phone. I think it’s worth trying!

Thank you for the reply. I actually heard back from a Cast Member less than 5 minutes from the time I asked the question! At first I thought it was a canned-type of reply and there wasn't really a person behind the response, but there was really someone there. Anyway, she said something similar to what you said. She told me to buy the Tier 5 tix first, and after I complete that purchase, they can request a refund for the Tier 2 tix. She told me to reply at my convenience. She was leaving for the day but someone else would pick up where we left off. I haven't had a chance to jump back into the convo, but now I am wondering how they will refund the Tier 2 tix when I bought them with gift cards??? Because I don't want a refund in gift cards if I have to use straight up money to get the upgrade. I really don't like that this is the solution offered, but it is better than showing up in person on our one day and not being able to get in because there are no more reservations available.
