Upgrading Tickets

My Mother In Law is coming and I don't see her coming in the future - so I was thinking one-day passes for her. Can we upgrade the one-day pass to hopping at the park (or must the hopping feature be added when then ticket is bought)? Can we upgrade at the second park we want to hop to? Is it $40 more to upgrade the one-day ticket? Thanks again.

Hopping can be added as late at the moment you need it (at Guest Rrelations of the second park you are visiting) so long as the pass has not been used more than 14 days ago (such as on a previous vacation).

Hopping costs the same $40. for any pass including the one-day. (May be more for passes purchased from non-Disney sources since you are actually paying the difference between a new gate-purchased pass and some value based on the wholesale price of what you already have)

Thanks for that answer SeashoreCM. I looked through your hyperlink for an answer but I couldn't find it. So here goes, I forgot how FP works for children under 3, who obviously doesn't need tickets. Do they just get on the ride with us without any ticket?

Can you buy tickets for other parks at one Park (e.g., buy MK tix at AK)?

Can you buy tickets before the gate opens at AK (I'm sure its yes)?

Children under 3 accompany you on rides without the need to fetch fast passes for them. If a child is too short (in height) or does not wish to ride then one parent waits with the child in a designated area (location varies from one ride to another) while the other parent rides. When the other parent gets back the first parent rides.

Tickets are not designated for a specific park when you buy them. You can buy all of the tickets, say, at Animal Kingdom and use them at Magic Kingdom for example. Without the hopping privilege, once you choose a theme park you cannot use the same ticket to go to a different theme park on the same day. (You can choose the same or a different theme park the next day for multi day non-hopping tickets.)

Ticket booths are open before the park opens so you can buy your ticket and then get into the park right at opening time, subject to crowds.

Although this doesn't make a difference to for the OP's original post, upgrading to a park hopper is actually cheaper for multi-day tickets if you buy them ahead of time. Disney's $40 charge is usually more.

For example, a 5 day base pass from Ticket Mania is $203. A 5 day Park Hopper pass is $238. The difference between the two tickets ($238-$203) is $35. So, upgrading to Park Hopper costs $40 at the gate, but only $35 in advance.

If you want to add hopping after you already bought the ticket you can do it only at Disney and the dollar outlay will be at least $40. plus tax. Depending on where you bought the ticket, you might "lose" a discount you had realized if you try to "modify" the ticket.

Adding the park hopping option costs $40 plus tax no matter whether you get it done in advance or at the parks. It is a flat fee that doesn't change no matter what ticket you have.

The difference in price that KJHawley refers to comes from the advance purchased price on any ticket of 4 days or more with at least one option added to it. The discount is figured on the base ticket price, not on the added option.
