Upgrading ticket to AP

Hey all,

Will be making a trip out to WDW in late October with my sister and mother during the last week of October, and we have a package that includes the free dining plan and a 6-day park hopper ticket.

I am now also looking to return during Christmas to visit and stay with my extended family that lives in Florida.

I was hoping that someone could fill me in on if it would be possible to do this, but I am looking to take the 6-day park hopper and upgrade it to an annual pass. I figured this would save me a few dollars rather than buying a separate 6-day MYW ticket when I return in December.

However, is it possible to do this since these tickets are linked to my resort/dining package?

1. Yes. Very easy to do.
2. Yup.
3. It'll work just fine.

Here's how to do it:

A. First, be sure to USE your ticket at least one time BEFORE you do the upgrade.
B. Then, just go to any ticket booth or Guest Relations at the parks. Show a legal photo ID and tell the CM that you want to upgrade to an AP.
C. You will only need to pay the difference price between a brand new ticket of the kind that you already have (6-day park hopper) and a new AP.

New Annual Pass: $696.51
New 6-Day Hopper: $414.29
Difference price: $282.22

It will cost you $282.22 to upgrade, including tax.

Thank you so much for your help, and thorough information Robo! Definitely adds some peace of mind and will probably go this route now.

Scenario - a friend currently has an annual pass. He wants to take advantage of free dining, so he has to buy a park ticket. When it is time to renew an annual pass there is usually a discount if you renew before it expires. Would he be able to apply the cost of the ticket to the renewal price - and still be able to get the $100 discount?

Or - instead of applying the cost of the park ticket to his AP renewal - can he assign that ticket to someone else? Or - can he have the ticket printed to a hard card and give it to someone else?

Thanks in advance. I can't find the ticket thread. :confused3

I upgraded my park pass to an AP back in May, as I knew I'd be going back in December. I did what Robo spells out and it worked beautifully... I had a 5th day free on my park pass and they even calculated the value of that day and added it in. I've now decided I'll also be going in the spring before it expires, so that'll save around another $400, which is very nice to look forward to.

1. There is always a renewal discount.
Guests can renew up to 60 days before the expiration date.
They can even renew (at the discount price) up to 30 days after the expiration date.
2. Yes.
3. Yes.
4. Yes.

Just to make things clear as to what was actually done...
There are no tickets that include a " free day."
That is just a promotional gimmick that sometimes pops up (via Disney or an authorized discounter.)
What they did was charge you for a 4-day ticket, but gave you a 5-day ticket (a $10.65 discount.)

What you really had was a conventional 5-day ticket, so that's what the CM used for the starting-point in the upgrade.

I just want readers to know what to expect when they try to decide to upgrade or not.

One more question - If he wants to pass his ticket off to someone, can he do it 60 days before check in date or does he have to wait until after he checks into the resort. The person he would give his ticket to would be on the same trip but on a different resort reservation number and room.

The requirement is to wait until the original owner of the ticket arrives at WDW for the resort stay.
