I have read before about upgrading tickets but I can't find it. I have the $85 ticket purchased electronically for our vacation. If I wanted to upgrade to the annual pass I can do this at the gate when I pick it up correct? Also can I upgrade to the AP on either one of those 7 days or only the first time I activate my ticket?

to be able to upgrade at anytime your original pass to the ap is great of Universal.

many have done it before and they say it was the best decision they made.
once you do that, you know you'll be coming back.

you know you want to....:thumbsup2

I have 4 days with park passes and a seperate 3 day room only booked for Disney. We are also going to Universal for 2-3 days in the middle of that. I am still thinking about cancelling Disney and switching over to RPH for the last 3 nights by getting the AP rate. It is our first time to US and I want to enjoy it as much as possible.

you might enjoy UO more if you stayed on site at the end of your disney trip.
i know you have it planned to to uo in the middle of your disney vacation but think about switching uo to the end of the trip.

twice i have done the UO portion of the trip in between the disney portion.
this was many years ago and before IOA was built. we thought we wanted to start and end the trip w/disney.

like i said, we did it twice that way and decided, never again.
do the trip half half.
start with disney and end with universal. stay on site at universal and immerse ourselves with mummy dust.

we enjoy staying on site and receiving the perks the hotels have to offer.
we really like being so close to the parks and not having to drive anywhere.

don't have to rush by having fotl

can pool hop between the 3 hotels.

i find it more relaxing and not rushed by staying on site.
can come and go to the parks or city walk frequently and then back to the hotel with a brief walk.

I just did this exact thing this morning. I have not picked up my $85 pass yet and called the universal on-line ticket store. She took care of it for me in a matter of minutes.

Good luck:)

If I only convince my wife another $300 is worth it we'll be there for sure....lol. We have a lot spent now....so I said to her whats another $300 right? Hopefully we have it figured out either way by early next week as we are travelling April 30-May 7. Can you book a room at the APH holder rate kinda last minute? At least within a week anyway?

I just checked the RPR for your last three nights of your vacation (5/4-5/7) The APH rate for nights 5/4 & 5/5 is $159/night and 5/6 is $124/night.

HTH

I say go for it. Once you stay at Universal you will be back, esp. if you buy an AP.

brooker, i hope ATAfamily just convenienced your wife to book on site....
those are good prices!!

you can book for the ap rate and buy the ap prior to your trip.

if you check into rph before you redeem the ap, no sweat.
tell the check in tm that you have to get the ap but have the voucher for it.

that will fly.

book, get the ap and enjoy your stay at UO !!

then come back and tell me and the others all about the wonderful trip you had.

I notice you are the proud mother of 3 blackbelts. My son is 9 and is working his way towards his blackbelt(currently a black stripe) in Tae Kwon Do.

So I can book at the RPH at the AP rate now, even though I have the $85 ticket already purchased. Then when I go to Universal my first day I can just upgrade then from the $85 to the annual pass right and use that to get my discount? I have to get the Preferred Annual Pass or the Premier correct?

book at the ap rate.
get the preferred annual pass for one of you.
all you need is one ap to get the benefits. you can use the one ap for merch, dining, hotel, free parking after you get the ap.

many times, you are not asked to see the ap when you check in.
if you do, tell the hotel clerk, that you have to go to guest services to process the ap. they will tell you that if you do not show proof of it before you check out, your rate will revert to rack rate. don't panic. once you get the ap, show it to the hotel front desk clerk when you return to the hotel that day or evening. have them mark it on your files. you will be fine.

as long as you show it by the time you check out, you will get that ap rate you booked with.

but like i said, many many times, a patron is not asked to see the card.

i would not get the power pass as it has black out dates and you do NOT get the hotel discount with it, nor the dining and merch discount.

it will cost you $179 for the PAP but, you will only pay the difference from the promo passes you have. 179 plus tax minus the 85 for the tickets.

or you can call universal resorts toll free number and have them cancel the passes you have now and buy the pap and be charged the difference.
then you will have the confirming email that you have the pap and pick it up at the park/guest services.

you can do it either way.
if you want to have it paid for now, then call tomorrow or before your trip.
if you don't care, then wait until you go.

Thanks for are the great info. You provide a great service to us US newbies here....lol

With all the great info that has been offered on this thread, I hope someone can answer this for me.

I did originally buy the 85 dollar ticket and book the HRH with the AAA discount but while reading threads about the great APH rates I decided to check...and for us it will save about $85 dollars for me to upgrade to 1 APH and then booked the APH rate.. I called and they were able to change my ticket over the phone and then did send me a confirming email with the AP info so I am really happy for the info on taking that to check-in! However, my question was this....it states that you do not get free parking with the first use of the AP.....so I was going to just stop by Universal one day to pick up the ticket, go through the gates and leave....so that could be considered my first visit...then at the end of the week when we plan on heading to HRH and Universal, it would be like my 2nd visit.

Do you think I need to do this? Does the hotel not charge me parking if we hae an AP?

Thanks for the info!

yes, the hotels will charge $12 for parking when you stay over night even if you do have the ap.
that is a $12 charge per night you stay.

the free parking for the garage is valid once you have the ap.
what you have prior is the voucher for the ap and a ticket to enter the park free for the first visit.

if you do not get the ap processed on that first visit, you can not get another free ticket to enter to do so

the ap does not give you free parking when you stay on site at the hotels. only free parking for the garage.

if you have the time and want to have the ap before the family goes to the parks, then no problem stopping by to get it.
but, you will have a parking fee to pay.

you have to show your ap to get the free garage parking.

if you are staying on site, maybe you would rather save that garage parking fee and just process the ap when you and the family come to check in to the hotel. this is just a thought.

Well we just went ahead and booked it. 3 nights(our last 3) onsite at RPH. I was a little dispppointed though that I couldn't use the Lowes First # in conjuction with the APH discount. But hopefully the perks on being onsite will ease my pain...lol.

i have both, aaa and ap.

i always book with the aaa to get the qualifying credits and american airline mileage. if the ap rate drops, i modify my ressie to switch.

when i go it is hhn season and rates are a tad higher with not many discounts. never have had the super saver specials in my time period. hotels fill up quickly, not much availability for my time periods.

last 2 years the aaa rates have been better than the ap for my dates.

i booked at hrh for the garden view which was the lowest , cheapest rate at $269 night + taxes.
with my loews card, platinum, i got the free upgrade to a king suite which is going for $479 + taxes for the same time period. that's one reason i prefer going with the aaa discount.

on site hotels have a policy not to combine discounts.
to have loews credtied to you on qualifying stays, it has to be certain discounts used. the ap is not one of them.
