Upgrading a GAD ticket

Please let me know if this is the correct procedure for doing this.

We are volunteeering this weekend an leaving May 5 th for our 5 day trip. Hopefully this will be enough time for everything to come together for us to receive our vouchers.

I want to upgrade the ticket after entering the park to a 5 day non hopper. From what I understand I will get the full value of the GAD ticket towards the ticket. about a 300.00 upgrade on 2 tickets.

If things turn out that we don't get to use all 5 days this trip, on the last day can I add the non expiring option for use at a later time. about a 445.00 upgrade on 2 tickets

I realize that option would be on the 5 day price, but still worth it I'm thinking .

Adding No Expire is usually NOT worth it.

First off, you'll save $79 off the gate price of an adult 5-day ticket (or any other ticket for that matter), pre-tax, by upgrading your GAD ticket. So a 5-day adult base ticket will cost you $149+tax, or about $158.69.

For the rest of this lets leave the tax out just to use round numbers. Anything you pay out of pocket you will pay an additional 6.5% on.

The problem with the No Expire option is that in order for it to be worth it, you need to make another trip in the future that will NOT require you to buy another ticket. Say you use only 3 days. It will cost you an additional $73 to save those two days, so now the ticket has cost you $222. That is certainly a lot cheaper than buying a 3-day ticket+GAD ($140) and a 2-day ticket ($156) ($296 total). So, if you cut the trip short at 3 days, and later make a 2 day trip, great.

But, if you need to but even ONE more day to round out the second trip at $79, you've now spent $301 - $4 more than if you purchased the separate tickets, and that's only for 1 additional day. Any more and its a bigger loss.

What if you don't use the last two days? The difference in price between a 3-day ticket and a 5-day ticket is only $9, so its only a $9 loss to not use them. If you use 4 of the 5 days, you'd only lose $3.

Another option - only upgrade to the number of days you KNOW you'll need. Add days as needed - you can upgrade as many times as you want, as longs as its within 14 days of first use of the original ticket.

If you have purchased a ticket from a discounter such as Undercover Tourist or purchased tickets prior to a price increase, using the ticket once before upgrading locks in the discounted price - Disney gives you credit for the current gate price instead of the price you paid. For the GAD voucher, you get credit for the gate price of a one-day ticket, so it doesn't matter if you upgrade at Will Call before you enter the park, or if you upgrade after you have used the ticket.
