Upgrading a Cabin

If you are already booked on a cruise and wish to upgrade to a different cabin, do you get the current rate or the rate of that cabin category when you originally booked?

Just a few days after I originally booked my cruise I changed cabin categories (the price had only gone up by a few hundred) and they gave me the lower price of what that category had been when I first booked.

Today I saw cabin 12000 was released and called to see if I could upgrade but was told I would be charged the prevailing rate, not the rate of a 1 bedroom at the time I originally booked. It's the only 1 bedroom available so it is thousands more now than that category was when I originally booked.

Is this correct and I was given the lower rate previously because it was so close to my original booking date? Or was the agent I spoke with today incorrect and I should try again tomorrow? This is only my second Disney cruise so I don't have much experience with what to expect. Thanks!

I called again today. Was again given today's price. I was transferred to "shore side services" and that agent checked with his manager who confirmed I should be given the early January price. But then the amount he quoted was still today's price. He said that that must mean the price hasn't gone up since I originally booked in January because he was in my reservation and that was the price quoted. That certainly doesn't match with my recollection but I didn't write it down when I was originally booking. Is there any chance they could still be incorrect and I should call again during the week? Or if they are checking from within my reservation that is definitive and I just must be remembering incorrectly?

I believe touring plans tracks cruise prices. You might need to subscribe though.

Thanks so much for the link! Unfortunately when I plug in my dates and cabin I get "no data". Is there a thread where people post opening day prices just to compare? If that was way over where I thought it was then at least I know my recall is off. When I look at the same itinerary on dates where there are still several concierge family and concierge 1 bedrooms left (which was the case when I booked in early January) they have prices similar to what I paid for the concierge family and similar to what I recall as the ballpark for the 1 bedroom at the time. The price they quoted today is about $7000 more than what I was expecting and 12000 is the only 1 bedroom left on that sailing. Which is what makes me think it was lower when I booked as there were several 1 bedroom cabins still available on both decks 11 and 12. Although it could be wishful thinking on my part, do the cabins go up by $7000 for a 7 night once they get down to a single cabin?

Overheard some fellow cruisers at the pool on the dream yesterday talking about trying to upgrade to concierge at the port on Friday. They were told they were only allowing platinum members with 20+ cruises to upgrade to concierge at the port. Don’t know if this is true or not. Just repeating what a fellow cruiser said he was told!
