I am trying to decide which to get? :confused3
I am purchasing our tickets for June..... But I am not sure when our next trip after June will be? :confused3
I am hoping for Oct, but won't be sure till later this year.
Anyway, if I purchased 9 or 10 day MYW tickets now.... can I upgrade them to AP's later?
Would I have to do that before I first used them?

Thanks,

If you upgrade to AP by the 14'th day from first use you can get the full gate price applied to an AP, and the AP is backdated to said date of first use.

After 14 days from some usage and you have non-expiration, for trade up to AP, you get some short rated credit, one person suggested you got the gate price but minus 64+* dollars for the first day used, minus another 63+ dollars for the next day used, minus another three+ dollars for the sixth day used, corresponding to the cost of new MYW passes covering the days you used. The AP should begin on the day of trade.

If your upcoming vacation should have 9 or 10 or sometimes 8 days in the theme parks, you are better off buying expiring passes. Non-expiration makes sense only when you foresee some future vacation which the remains of one or two previously used passes will fully cover.

* plus some share of the hopping and non-expiration amounts.

Just wanted to add that the first day you use the pass is counted as Day 1 and you have to do the upgrade before the last day of the MYW pass is used up.

Best wishes -

In December of 2004, we purchased three Park Hopper tickets... Since we were staying through January, a two week stay, we obviously found it a better deal to buy the AP's even at the Gate Rate. But, your question, yes, we upgraded later that day. I don't know if this was an exception or just some of the Great things that Disney does. We were further advised that AP's beginning 2005 would be discounted for DVC members... we were unsuccessful in negotiating an "early discount"... Good Luck in your Endeavor...

Yes, I agree.... I would only get non-expiring 10 days if we are making 2 shorter, 5 day trips.
So our options are 9 or 10 day MYW or the AP if we plan 2 or 3 trips.
Thanks for the info!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!

Magic Your Way tickets are "front loaded". Let's say you have a 5 day ticket that cost $200. That works out to $40 per day, right?

Wrong. The first day is the most expensive. The second day is worth somewhat less, and the third day is worth even less than that.

Make somewhat more sense?

If you upgrade the ticket (meaning you turn in an unused admission, or one whose 1st use was in the past 14 days), you will a credit for the full gate price of the admission.

If you try to get a dollar credit (meaning your ticket has non-expiration, and it has been more than 14 days since the first use), the situation I described above will be used to figure out how much credit you'll get.
