I booked a CATG 12 GTY and was wondering how many others also book this for the savings and actually get upgraded. Also if you do get upgraded what is the best one has received. I can't wait to sail DCL for the first time.

We booked a cty 12 for our cruise this July and when we finally got our rooms, no upgrade :sad2: :sad2:

Oh well. At least we are on the boat! :cool1:

We booked through a travel agent (Costco) and not Disney so I don't know if that makes a difference.

Based on what has been discussed on this board since I have been on it (over a year), there is no rhyme or reason to the upgrades. It doesn't matter if you booked through a TA or DCL. It doesn't matter if you have a special event or not. :confused3

So, the overwhelming consensus has always been (and always should be) - Don't count on an upgrade. Book the category of stateroom that you think you will be comfortable in, and then you might get lucky. But, if you book and plan on an upgrade, you may start your vacation off with a disappointment.

I don't really care where I lay my head at night....just wondered how often it happens because I took notice that there are not that many CATG 12 cabins to start with. I will let you know if the upgrade fairy visits me..haha. :wizard:

First cruise we booked a GTY, ended up with a Category 4 :cool1: Mega Pixie-Dust working for us on that one.

2nd cruise, again booked GTY, and got upgraded to a 10. Realized that although I don't "need" the verandah of a cat 4, I do need at a minimum a porthole for some natural light. So we've booked a cat 9 for our upcoming cruise.

Booked GTY11 and got upgraded to a 9.

Does it make any difference if you have already been assigned a specific room or not?

If you have been assigned a room, there is still a chance for an upgrade. However, the chances are better if it still says gty. Many times if you book a gty 12, you will sail in at least an 11.

We've been upgraded twice in 12 sailings. Both times, it was 11 to 9

Hi. I just booked a cat 12 for Dec 31 7 days on the Magic Western, for myself & my Dd (27) we were on the Magic 2 yrs ago, used my DVC pts , for a porthole & got upgraded to a verandah, but we hardly ever used the verandah. We decided that we would try an inside cabin this time, paying cash. & with the savings going to Dis staying at SSR from 12/26 to 12/31!
Good luck to all for an upgrade!

We booked a cat 12 gty last year (family of 4) and were upgraded to a cat 8 :cool1: ...of course when we rebooked...we loved the 8...so we stuck with that one.

On July 9 3 night, we booked at a category 8 and were upgraded 2 weeks before to a category 5. We loved the verandah, especially in the morning when getting close to shore. When rebooking, we stuck with the category 5. Anyone ever get upgraded from that?

I booked a category 12 GTY about 11 months in advance through the DCL website. I was upgraded to a category 9. While on board, I rebooked another cruise and chose a category 12 GTY again. I'm hoping I'll get lucky again and get an upgrade, if not I'll still be happy just to be going on a 7 day cruise.

What is the difference between a 12 and 11. I have a 12 guarantee but just want a place for 4 of us to sleep and shower.....

Thanks

The only difference between a 12 and an 11 is the 11 has the pull down bunk for a 4th person to sleep. If you have 4 in your party, you can't stay in a 12, so the worst you will do is an 11.
