upgrades at the airport

has anybody upgraded their seats at the airport?
if so what was the costs?

I`ve asked and was told the cost would be so high I would`nt want to know!
However I did ask very very nicely if they had any seats with more room with our last flight out with Delta and we were given two bulk head seats.
It never hurts to ask.

upgraded which airline, and which class to what?

We have upgraded before with virgin.. I cant remember the cost now, and as we never fly virgin any more, I cant tell you if its in their brochure - but the price used to be in the brochure.

We have been upgraded for free several times with british Airways! I have never enquired about the price..
you will be able to find out though.. its like standby upgrades or something.. if they have availability they will upgrade you, of course!!

Usually (particularly for Virgin PE) it works out cheaper buying the upgrade in advance. Don't rely on cheaper prices or even availability if hoping to upgrade at the airport. Also, I have read that complimentary upgrades are more likely to be given to a couple without children.

youre right Frances9999 - they very rarelly give upgrades to people with young children.

We have been upgraded 3 x I think, once when my son was 2 and twice when he was 4.. and on each occasion the check in person has been talking to my son directly.. (just to check he didnt have two heads!) -

My husband is a BA gold card holder and so he will be one of the first they will ask if they need to upgrade some people to make room in Economy. We would have been upgraded for definate more often if we didnt have our son with us!
