Upgrade to Club Level on Convention Rate

I am attending a convention at Grand Floridian and am currently booked under the convention rate block. Has anyone ever had success in receiving or paying for an upgrade to club level? If so, did it ever just happen or you had to request it?

I stayed at GF for a convention. They upgraded my view from standard to lagoon, but no luck moving to CL level.

I did not ask at check in.

We've stayed at the GF twice on a convention rate. One time we had the garden view. One time we were upgraded to a lagoon view. I honestly don't think that a CL room is something that you should hope for when you're staying with a convention group. If you ask for an upgrade at check in, be prepared to pay the rack rate. Free upgrades are done for Disney's convenience, not the guest's.

You are likely to have to pay the full cost of the CL room, not the difference between rack for the room you're in and rack for Club. You will sacrifice the convention discount, in other words.

Pixie dust upgrades are rare. Book room you are happy with.
