Hey all, I have a 4 day park hopper that my friend gave me. He got it last year at a discount site. I was going to see if I can upgrade it to an Annual Pass with the DVC discount. I believe I have to use it once to get the full gate purchase price. But will I be able to get the DVC discount. Also can I just walk into the gate enter the park and then go to Guest Servies and upgrade or do I have to wait a day after i use the pass for the first time.

Thanks much.

Okay is the pass used??? If so you would not be able to use it. If not..then I am pretty sure you don't have to even use it a day either before upgrading. Guest Services are on the OUTSIDE of the parks. I am sure others will reply.

It has never been used at all. Which is a great bonus for us.

WOW that is great. The neat thing about that is...you will get the current price of that 4 day towards an AP. Are you DVC members? IF so....a great discount for that AP too.

I have seen on the boards that you need to use the ticket once to get the full gate price. If not, the can see that the ticket was a discounted ticket and only give you what it was brought for.

hmmm i wonder why. That doesn't make any sense to me. I mean if you use it once then you are losing a day on it and thus decreasing value right??

By the way, a 4 day MYW with PH is 269. AP for DVC is 369. You would pay 106.50 with tax for the upgrade. HTH

Wouldn't it also be a NON expiring pass too?? If so then I would think that would mean the MYW with PH and non exp. would be worth more ????

No, they give you all the days on the ticket for the upgrade no matter how many days you have used.

Thanks guys, this is great news. This will work out great for my trip in January. Two trips for free basically.

Yes, if it has the no exp option in it. They way I am reading it is that they have a 4 MYW with PH that has never been used. Tickets do not expire as long as you never use them. If you use them, you have 14 days to upgrade to AP or add the no expire option to the ticket. Even if the ticket has the no expire option, any and all upgrade to tickets must be done by the 14 day of first use.

No, you won't get the current price of the pass. You will get the amount paid for it when purchased. That information is coded on the pass.

FWIW, you can still trade in passes from many years ago. They will give you the amount paid (or a fractional portion of that if the pass has been partially used) when the pass was purchased toward a new pass/AP.

:confused3 :confused3

Really...what if you used 3 of the 4..they would still give you full value????

Yes, but they will date the pass as of the first day you used the hopper. Therefore you're really not gaining anything.

This might have already been said (I read all the posts, but I'm actually confused!), but definitely read the ticket FAQ linked above, and it should work like this:

Use the discounted ticket for 1 day.
Now it's worth whatever the current gate price is for that kind of ticket, minus 1 day (follow me here). [edited to say - or in reality, it will be worth the gate price of a ticket that is 1 day shorter than the one you started with - not sure if that's any clearer or not!]
You take it to Guest Relations and upgrade it to the Annual Pass.
You will get the DVC discount.
Your newly purchased AP will *most likely* be 1 day shorter than normal because you had already used 1 day on the ticket media you upgraded with [see above edit!]

I say most likely, because like all things at Disney, it sometimes depends on the CM you get handling your transaction.

If you don't use the ticket at all, its value will be the discounted price actually paid for it.

But I agree, read Cheshire Figment's sticky -- learn from the expert!
