Upgrade base ticket to hopper?

My mil bought dd a base ticket instead of a hopper for our upcoming trip. Can I upgrade it?

Yes, any guest service or ticket location can take of it for you. It is always best to use the tickets for at least one park admission prior to adding the upgrade.

As far as I know is because of any potential price increases from the time of purchase to the time of use. If you have used the ticket once then you just pay the current difference between the base and PH. If you haven't used the ticket before you pay the difference between what you paid to base ticket and then difference to PH.

What if you decide to upgrade to a hopper before you even go and there is not a price increase since booking? I've got a MYW package with 6-day base tickets - I'm debating upgrading to a hopper and will likely make the decision in the next couple of weeks. Can I call and upgrade the tickets to a hopper then?

And if I decide to wait, if there's a price increase, would I need to wait until Day 2 or could I just do it after entering a park on Day 1?

Because you have a MYW package you can add the hopper in advance. If you decide to wait and do it at a park you can do it immediately after entering the first park on Day 1 or wait until you are ready to enter the second park for the day.

It's not just in case the price goes up. If you buy a discounted ticket from a reseller like Undercover Tourist or Maple Leaf tickets, it will preserve the discount you got by bridging the price you paid up to gate price.

Yes, this is the reason why it pays to use the ticket once before upgrading. If your ticket is part of a package and, therefore, purchased direct from Disney then you may as well upgrade just as soon you know that you want to add park hopping.

Tickets that are purchased as part of a WDW Resort Package are not considered "direct from Disney,"
as those tickets are sold internally (at a discount) to another division of WDW ("Resorts") and are considered
to be "discounted tickets" like those from other authorized ticket resellers.
