I wasn't sure which board to put this on...

Ok, here's the question. How does upgrading an unused park hopper to an annual pass work? I did this last fall and I just found receipts last night that make me think that I have been cheated. And yes, I do feel pretty stupid at the moment.

WE bought 4 day park hoppers from Ticketmania.com in March
2002. WE went to Disney in Sept 2002. We never used a single day on the park hoppers. I went straight to guest services in Epcot to do the upgrade. I had problems with the girl b/c she tried to give me an Annual Pass with an expiration date in March 2003. She fixed that after I complained.

So, I originally paid $548 for the 4 day park hoppers. I have the Disney Club discount. She charged me $375.24 for each adult AP and $319.06 for the child's AP. Tax was $60.54. A whopping total of $1069.54. I didn't get any kind of credit for the park hoppers. So, essentially I gave her my unused park hoppers and paid the full DC price for AP's.

Shouldn't I have received some type of credit. I was looking at Deb Will's site and she has a thing on their stating that if the park hoppers are upgraded within 7 days of 1st use, then you get full credit. I have already called Disney and the CM was most unhelpful.

This doesn't sound good. Do you have any information about your original park hoppers (copies of the backs of them) or a reciept from purchase? If you were able to get any help at all, you will have to be able to show them what you purchased to begin with and they would have to confirm that they were never used. Does you reciept from your "upgrade" say anything at all about the park hoppers? If you can gather as much information as you can, I'd call back and talk to a supervisor and try again. Then if you get nowhere, start writing a letter and find out who to send it to. Good luck. -HM

If you upgrade the pass form PH to AP within 7 days of the first use of the PH, the full amount paid for the PH will be applied to the cost of the AP. However, the AP start date will be back-dated to the day when the PH was first used. If you have a PHP and want to upgrade to an AP, you will only be allowed to upgrade to a PAP if you have used even one plus option from the PHP.

If more than 7 days have passed since the PH ws first used, you can still upgrade to an AP. When 7+ days have passed, Disney will take the number of park days remaining on a pass and apply a formula to the amount that you paid for the PH or PHP. Basically, the formula is very close to:

(#days remaining) X (total amount paid)
(#of original park days on pass)

No credit is given for any remaining pluses on a PHP. That amount would then be applied to the cost of a new AP. The first day for the AP would start on the date of purchase.

Yes, you should have received some credit for the passes that you exchanged for the APs. Otherwise, why would you bother exchanging them? It appears that you may have had a rather inexperienced and confused CM. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what you can do about it now. Had you caught the error before leaving the Guest Services window, you probably would have had better luck. As it is, you would need an awful lot of proof to convince anyone at WDW that they made an error of that magnitude.

If you have copies of the backs of the PHs, and any receipts it may help your cause. If you can prove that they were not applied to the cost of the APs, you may be able to get Disney to consider them to be "lost" passes and you may be able to get them to issue replacements. In effect, you would not get a refund on the money that you spent, but you would have new 4-day PHs. Good luck.

Thanks for the info.

I do have receipts. I have the receipt from ticketmania showing what I bought and how much I paid. I also have the receipt from Epcot showing that I purchased the AP's at the DC discount. it does have in parentheses that it is an upgrade but shows nothing about the park hoppers. I don't have any copies of the original park hoppers though. I was thinking of emailing ticketmania to see if they keep that sort of info.

I actually have the envelope all this is in with a note I wrote on 9-20-02 about Kimberley at Epcot trying to make the AP's expire in March 2003. I actually had to argue with her to change that date since the AP's had never been used. She kept telling me that I would have to go back to the original ticket purchase date.

I did call 1-407-WDW-MAGIC (too many numbers I know  but that is what I have listed). The lady I spoke with today tells me that i should have received some credit and that I would need to go back to where I upgraded to correct this. It's a good thing I will be in Disney next week. So, I'm going to take all my stuff and try there.

I really feel so stupid. Never go and do something complicated at Disney after you have been travelling all night.

Hey....I think you have a good chance of resolving this since you saved your receipts! Good luck and come back and tell us what happens, please. Sending Pixie Dust your way **~**~**~***~~**~***~**~ -HM
