(UPDT: 2/21) Losing The Glass Slippers to RUN like a Princess! Serial-PTRer report!

Jellybean5K002.jpg

Loving the socks by the way. :lovestruc:rotfl2:

Looking fantastic, Karen! :goodvibes

Aren't they FABULOUS, Lisa?!?! I got some that are blue/green striped too! :p

So you want an update? An actual Disney update??? I GUESS I could update a bit... ;)

Ok, so here's my update...

REY has decided that we are staying at POP...ya know, the place with the "commissary" :lmao: He says we'll just save up for the next trip to be at AKL, so we can have our money up front at 7-11 months out when we need to rent DVC.

Now, this SOUNDS fine, but he doesn't realize that I'm gonna wanna run this race the following February as well! :rotfl2: (so we will have to save up pretty fast after this upcoming trip! LOL) Oh yez, folks, I have already concocted a scheme in my head about catching him in his weakest moment...maybe after my race and when we are smack dab in the middle of stuffing our faces at Biergarten, his very favorite place to be.

Or, I could catch him in Germany when he's just purchased the chicken hat that he swears he is going to buy when we go back...

Disney20121817-1.jpg

That's when I'll smile really big and tell him how awesome it would be to come back and run it again the following year. I thought this up already b/c I'm pretty sure they are going to be adding a new 10K race to the Princess (this is just me speculating, I could be wrong) and I am NOT going to sign up for both races THIS time b/c that would be madness, but you can bet that the following year in 2015 I will! :cool1:

LOL...I just realized that this would get us to 2016 the following year, for Savannah's 16th...when I have promised a trip as well! Looks like we are going yearly after all! :rotfl:

Ok, I just went off on a tangent, didn't I? Where was I? :confused3

Oh yes, Pop Century. Humph. Well, it's HOME for Savannah and she's is happy, but I still have a little bitty voice telling me that if I could just make enough cash this summer I might still be able to squeeze in AKL, but I'm pretty sure everyone else is ready to stomp it out. I'm sure I'll be ok with it eventually, but we've been to Pop three times already and I am kind of bored with it. :confused3

Up next...FOOD! I have NEVER been so laid back and slow about picking my ADRs. I need to get with it!

Hey, I like this annual thing you got going here. I do the same!!! :)

Pop will be ok. Perhaps you can think of it as your 'final farewell to Pop' trip. And the bright side is there is that tie-dye cheesecake, right?

On a running side note (because why not?). I finally (took WAY TOO LONG) made it to 3.1 again yesterday. I am not training well here. Not at all. And today I talked myself out of running because of my THREE HOUR commute to work since Chicago is underwater....and the nice sinus headache I have from the rain. I have a lot of excuses. That will not get me far in my trianing. ;)

Caught up again, Karen! I love your pictures of AKL! I want to stay there so much! I didn’t know that when you rented points, you had to have all of the money up front. Bummer! Out of all of your options, robbing a bank sounds like the best one  No, really, I like the idea of doing Pop for a few days and then AKL for a few days. I hope you can put a little extra aside and make a split stay at AKL. If not, your plan of telling Rey you want to come back again the next year just might work! If you can save a little during your busy months this summer, and save a little bit more before your upcoming trip, maybe you will have everything together to rent the AKL points for your next trip :yay: So, as far as Pop, since you are kinda bored with that resort, do you think you could convince the family to stay at ASMu? I bet the kids would really like the musical aspect of it, and Rey would see the “commissary” is pretty similar! :lmao:

No more excuses, young lady! Get out there and RUN!!! :cool1:

A split stay would definitely work out better for money and I think I could pull it off...BUT...the dining plan would be a mess and I'm not sure how we would separate discounted tickets from runDisney, dining plan, renting points, etc....

Rolling over the commissary stuff...I told Rey my friends on the DIS were making fun of him! :lmao:

FOOD! :woohoo:

I put off figuring out my ADR's for quite a while because some of them were dependent on where we were staying. For now, we're going to assume we are staying at PoP, so I have gone ahead and worked up our tentative ADR's for the trip based on that. (had to come back and add photos, it felt wrong without some!)

Friday, Feb. 21st-
Arrival/Expo/DTD day
Raglan Road dinner
(website pic since I haven't been there yet!)
RaglanRoadFacebookPic2.jpg

Saturday, Feb. 22nd-
MK morning/CS dinner at Pop before early bedtime for race!
Crystal Palace breakfast. Rey & Savannah's favorite and a tradition for our first morning!
Disney2013256.jpg

Sunday, Feb. 23rd-
RACE DAY!!!!!!/Epcot
Biergarten lunch (post-race-pigout & beer!) ;)
Can't go to Germany without getting food. Rey would stay here all day if he could...
ReyKarenAKL1344.jpg

Monday, Feb. 24th-
Animal Kingdom/DTD
Tusker House lunch...we're waffling here a bit b/c we LOVE Sanaa but cannot seem to fit it into the trip. We could leave AK for Sanaa and then go back? Seems like lots of traveling.

Disney20121240.jpg

Oh, I'm sorry, I got distracted in AK by the BEST RIDE EVER!!!!!!! ;)

Tuesday, Feb. 25th-
MK morning/Epcot evening
Rose & Crown late dinner/Illuminations
(another website pic since we haven't been there)
stormalong-epcot-121.jpg

Wednesday, Feb. 26th-
DHS morning/MK last night(possibly Wishes Dessert Party)
Beaches & Cream lunch
ReyKarenAKL1384.jpg

That's the plan. We would be hitting DTD, probably, around lunch on Thursday before the drive home, but I'm unsure if I can fit anymore ADR's in. If I can, we'll pay OOP for Crystal Palace breakfast and then maybe find a place to eat Sanaa. I wish I could do it Saturday night for dinner, but I think African inspired food before a half marathon would be a no-no!

Oh, I hope you're right about that! The same-day sellout of the marathon weekend 10K caught me by surprise and really screwed up my plotting for an epic January adventure but a 10K over Princess weekend would work just as well... Epic FL adventuring over our winter break combined with a race DD is old enough to run, right before my AP expires. It would be perfect, and this time I'd know to register ASAP!

Always the hardest and most fun part of planning. :lmao: I always seem to have that one restaurant that I just can't make room for no matter how hard I try.

Liking your ADRS.

My family is the most UNADVENTEROUS eaters ever. And we are staying at Kidani. Thinking I need to do Saana by myself? Yes?

And I have Beaches and Cream on my list for November. I havn't been there in YEARS ... over a decade actaully. Looking forward to trying it again!!!

I gotta finish my mini-TR today so I can post on my ADR thoughts. Since my reservation window is like in 2 weeks. Yikes!

Well, I'm sure people are just speculating because they added a 10K to Marathon weekend, but I think it would be GREAT and might help a little with some of the crowd issues. I'm not sure though, I think people will just sign up for both instead of one or the other. I'm excited to find out!

Part of my problem is that we have so many favorites and I like to try new places too! I can't fit them all in.

Rey LOVED it, I thought it was ok. Don't get me wrong, the place is themed so great and honestly it's VERY authentic food as well. I almost felt like I had transported back to the 70s and was having lunch with my mom. Yes, I know it's not supposed to be based around the 70s, but I swear they still had places like this around in the 70s and my mom would eat at them. Or maybe I am reincarnated from the 50s. :p I would probably pick somewhere else if I had the choice, but Rey really wanted to go back.

I gotta finish my mini-TR today so I can post on my ADR thoughts. Since my reservation window is like in 2 weeks. Yikes!

Ooooh! GET TO IT!!!

I think you should go to Sanaa on your Animal Kingdom Day. That is what I am doing...in fact you are the reason I am going to Sanaa :cool1:. After reading your report with that awesome lunch that you and Rey had. I knew I had to take Gabrian there so he could see the animals while we were eating.

:wave2:Hi Karen!

You joined me on my journey so I will join you on yours. Our 1/2 Marathon is the F&W so we are only days away from making ADR's:scared:. I don't have ANY lined up! We are flying SWA on RR points and our flights will be released on May 5...181 days before our vacation starts! I want to see what our times look like before I set up any ADR's. We are staying at AKV-Jambo so Boma and Sanaa are both on the radar. I'd love to do dinner at Sanaa on our arrival night and breakfast at Boma on our departure morning, but I doubt that will work out. We have to be back in Michigan between 5-7pm because, stupid me, has to work at 7am the next day:crazy2:. So, we'll probably have to be at DME by 9am and with Boma not opening until 8, we'd have to cut our buffet time short...who wants to do that?! DH has never been to F&W (this will be my third) so I don't want to interrupt or spoil our grazing with too many TS meals.

I look forward to your updates!

Yay! Thanks for joining!!! I'm totally jealous you are staying at AKL, it's my favorite! 2015 I WILL be staying there! :) I think you would totally have time for Boma breakfast on departure morning. DME pick up is mere feet out the front door of AKL, so you could have all your stuff ready and they would probably hold it while you ate??

I'm excited to follow your running journey!!! Wine and Dine will be on my radar eventually, I LOVE food and wine, so does my husband, Rey.

I'm thinking about it! We have been to Tusker House a few times and the kids have been there but not to Sanaa...my problem is the time it would take to go from AK to AKL and also I'm concerned that Sanaa would be a bit hard for Savannah and her friend Eleanor to find something to eat. I need to see if the kids menus have any "american" food for them. :rolleyes2

Joining in, I have followed your other TR and had fun ;) your pictures captivate me and I love any inspiring stories! Can't wait to here more .... Pop is ok at least you will be at Disney...
Love raglan rd..our fav!

Karen, I just had to pop in to see if you read this on the DIS main page - you were right about the 10K!

"New for 2014 will be the Princess 10K on Saturday of race weekend. If runners complete both the Princess 10K and the Princess Half Marathon, they will earn the inaugural Disney Glass Slipper Challenge Medal, as well as the medals from the individual races."

So I signed up for the registration notification. We're officially planning for winter break in Florida, wrapping up with the Princess 10K as the last hurrah of my AP year! :woohoo:

Hi Patty! I'm glad to find another person that loves Raglan Road! I have been wanting to go there the last 3 trips, I'm making it happen this time! :thumbsup2

Whoohoooo! That means we could possibly meet! :cool1: Yep, I was right, but only b/c I'm a total blog-geek now and have been following people who mentioned suspecting a 10K being added! I will NOT be doing the 10K, just the 1/2 marathon. I thought about it for a moment, but I really don't want anything to overshadow my first half marathon and this challenge I can save for another time! Excited you are doing it though!!! :worship:

I want to join! I'm planning on doing one of the Disney 1/2s, too! I'm thinking Wine & Dine 2013, but it's 80% full and I'm not willing to make the commitment just yet. I gotta get on that!
