PRO’s :D
Speedy check in!
It’s pretty
The rooms are large
Mili in the bakery – one of the nicest CMs we’ve ever met
Very comfy beds
No waiting for busses

CON’s :(
The bus stop is too far away from Building 7
Bus sharing
“Closed-in” feeling
DH described it as “non-adventurous”
Redundant in external appearance
No Zippedy Do Dh Channel (not their fault, I know!)

We arrived at the French Quarter (after taking a brief and unintended detour through the Epcot Parking lot) at about 6:15 Friday evening (04/16). DH and I can argue over a map like nobody’s business. I always tell him we could be a hit on Amazing Race because the only time we argue  is when there is a map involved, and then – look out! I have a built in sense of direction, which he lacks, and he is also short on map reading skills, so it is always a special treat. So we ended up at Epcot and drove through the parking lot before getting to POFQ.

Check in was the fastest I have seen anywhere! There were 4 CM’s working the desk (which seemed small for the size of the resort) and there were 2 families in line when we got in it. We were checked in and in our room about 15 minutes after our arrival. We’re used to a much longer process at AKL, so we were thrilled. The CM who did the check in was not at all overly friendly, though – very business like, and in the college program, I think, because she had a college listed on her name tag. She gave us a map of the resort (I’ll post it later), showed us where the bus stop was and send us on our way. It was not until later that I realized she had not given us that little “newsletter thingie” that lists all of the park hours and Early Magic Hour days and stuff:( . There was not one in our room, either. In fact, there was no information in our room about ANYTHING, but the bedtime stories.
Anyway, we were in room 7246 with a water view. We drove to the appropriate parking lot and found our room. The room was very nice. It is was a nice size, and cheerfully decorated. One thing we learned was while the shower style curtain that divides the sink area from the sleeping area is nice and handy, they need to make them out of thicker material or line them. I am an early riser and pulled the curtain closed and when I put the light on, DH and DD thought the sun was coming up:guilty: . The curtains are yellow and put off a glow into the rest of the room just like a bright sunrise. They were still able to sleep, but they both thought the sun was coming up when they woke up.

The second thing we noticed was the bus stop is waaaay to far from Building 7. This was also our first experience with bus sharing (French Quarter buses make 3 or 4 stops at Riverside before going on to the park). The first night, however, we had our own bus to MGM the entire way. DD thought that was just the coolest thing. We dreaded the walk to the bus stop – especially on the way back. The last day – WE DROVE TO THE BUS STOP! We did not have to wait long for a bus, though, at all – it was just a long ride to our desitnation. I looked at the resort map and tried to figure out if it would be closer to go to Riverside to catch a bus, but it looked to be about the same distance.
Actually, Building 7 is just far from EVERYTHING! I did not even go in the gift shop because I was just too tired to walk up there!

Floatworks was fine for food. We had a very long wait in line for lunch on Saturday. I was hoping I would like beignets better than I did, but I think I did not like them because they are so darn messy! Just pour the whole of box powdered sugar on us! They do make an awesome M & M cookie, though, that I highly recommend ;). . Also, it is worth it to go there just to meet Mili who works in the bakery/pastery section. She was the most pleasant, welcoming and just all around nicest person I have met in a while – you have to meet her! :sunny:

We did not go to the pool, although we walked by it. It looked nice – was not too crowded. There is also a carriage ride around the resort that you can take. It lasts 30 minutes. We did not do it, but I would have liked to if we’d had time.

There was a cute little pond/fountain that had I think 8 frogs who shot water out of their mouths – at one time only 3 frogs were working. There are also (I know there is a term for these things, but I don’t know them!) horse heads on a pole that line the walkways – one horse head was missing and the pole had been covered with duct tape to protect the sharp edges. I was surprised to see that.

Mousekeeping was good. The rooms near us had stuffed animals looking out the windows, and although we did not get any towel animals, our toothpaste and deodorant were in washcloth baskets when we returned. There were Mickey soaps and shampoos everyday, and some Mickey coffee by the coffee pot, which we did not use. Our ironing board already had a scorch mark on the cover, but nothing major.

We took the boat to Downtown Disney, which was nice :boat:.Went past the old Treehouse Villas (DH suspects they have mold and that is why they are sitting, but it is just a guess). Kathy was our captain and she was very informative. We had to pick people up at Riverside before going, so that added to the trip, but it was nice out at that time and it was a nice rest.

I would not pay extra for water view again. I was kind of disappointed by it. I will post a pic later, but it was very obstructed by trees. I think there are enough rooms at FQ that have a nice view that you should not pay extra. I would say probably 70% of the rooms have a nice view – either courtyard or water, but I was disappointed in what we paid for as far as it being a “water view.”

We went with another family. They are Wilderness Lodge people. DH asked what they thought of the resort and the guy’s opinion was “the only thing I like are the pillows!” We liked it enough, but I don’t think we will be going back. There is nothing wrong with it – it just is not us. We like the animals at AKL, the different CMs to speak to (we did not see ANY CM’s other than in the lobby) and the different things to look at. Since the walk from the bus was so long we wanted something to look at, but it all looked the same. The trees over the “streets” give it a very closed in feeling. In fact, DH & I both agreed we prefer the All Stars over FQ because to us the All Stars have a “fun” feel with all of the big, themed things. This was just a little too laid back for us, I guess.

Like I said, please don’t judge your stay by my review. DH and I kept saying, “Well, there’s nothing really wrong with it, but I just don’t know.” It’s nice enough and all, but we probably won’t go back. It just was not our thing

Thanks for sharing your report. This is my favorite resort--I'm staying there next week.

This is my favorite resort too !!!
Checking in Saturday night (April 24th)

I don't see how this could be considered worse than an AllStar?
To be POFQ is very 'classy' while the AllStars are more of a Disney version of Motel 6........JMHO:crazy:

No, I didn't mean it was worse, it was just not to our taste.
We do enjoy higher level accomodations, it just lacked something for us. We might not have spent enough time there to actually soak it all in.

I guess different people just enjoy different things, which is why there are so many resort selections.

Enjoy your trip!

:D

I guess different stokes . . . We've stayed at AKL but much prefer POFQ to AKL. Guess it just depends on individual tastes. POFQ is my favorite Disney resort.

The review makes me wonder if we should have just booked a value resort and saved more money. I am worried that our kids will not like the resort compared to All Star Sports.

I thought it was a smaller resort and not far to the bus stops. It sounds like you did a lot of walking. Maybe you were just expecting more from a moderate hotel.

Blockmiller-

You know, I just don't know. I wanted to love it, I really, really, did, but it just didn't click for some reason. And it didn't click for the couple we were with, either.

Honestly, though, there is nothing wrong with it, it is just not me.

But I don't care who you are, Building 7, Room 7246 is a LONG way from the bus stop. Too long in my opinion. They need to consider adding another stop! Riverside has numerous stops.

If you rented a car why did you take the Disney bus? (I'm trying to find a nice way to type this, I don't mean it rude in ANY way. )

Do other people do this? I ask because we're staying there and we're renting a car but I plan on not using the buses and using the car to get around. Do the buses get you places faster or have better access?

Thanks! :sunny:

Even on trips where we have a car, we take the Disney buses. It is SO much easier to get to and from the parks using Disney transportation. We rarely move our car once we arrive. To me, taking the Disney transportation is part of the experience. Combining the boat to DTD and the buses, there is no reson to drive.

Trust me.............Your kids will LOVE IT once they see the
pool area. Many guests say it's one of the best offered at WDW.
There is a Serpent slide where riders exit the ride through the serpent's mouth into the pool. There are pictures of it over on allearsnet.com.

We drive to WDW because we live within driving distance, but we park it when we arrive and don't get into it until we leave. We use the Disney transportation all the time and love it.

Well, I went and looked at a map of the resort and it looks to me(and I could be wrong) that Bldg 7 is the one that is closest to the bus stop so I'm terribly confused. I'd read that this resort was quite small and everything was very close together. Could you look at the map on allearsnet for me and tell me if the bus stop is where indicated on the map? And also, where did you park your car? There are no parking lots indicated on the resort map.

I'm not really that concerned about being near the bus stop, I don't mind the walk there, I'm more concerned about being close to the food court for refills on the mug and being near the pool.

Anyway, thanks for any input, yours is the first report I've read contradicting the "small size" that everybody else mentions.

Cruisnfamily,
I'd be happy to look at the map, if you can post a link to it -- I can't find it! I was going to scan mine and post it in a few days when I get time.
It's long, I'm telling you! ::yes::
Our car was close, though -- right at the end end of the resort, between FQ and Riverside there was a parking lot -- that is where we were.

There's no Zippedy Doo Dah Channel??? Does this mean you don't get the Zippedy Doo Dah Tip for Today? No Disney ads? Please tell me that's not true!

I had to edit so I could add the s to there.

I am thinking the same thing! Is it just taken off at the French Quarter or all Disney Resorts? We arrive at Riverside in 15 days and that is one of the things we were really looking forward to!

I was wrong, it's not on allears, it's right here: http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/portorleans.jpg

According to this, the bus stop is right there....

Thanks for the report. We will be there Apr 25-28. I'm hoping we will like it but we have nothing to compare it to since this will be our first Disney resort stay. :D

DS 9 and DD 7 are excited about the pool as we've seen the pics of it and the video footage.

The first time I noticed no Zippedy Do Dah Channel was in December. It has been replaced (at all resorts, I believe), by a 30 minute show with the top 10 things to do, or something like that.

I know, I hate that it is gone!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I guess I'll live but not after a good pout about this. :(

Actually, Bldg. 4 is the closest to the bus stops and Food Court. Bldg. 7 is not as close.
