Updated: Ticket Prices increasing Tomorrow (CONFIRMED)

You would think I'd know this, since we've had APs, but I'm drawing a blank right now.

I know we can purchase them now and have until the end of the year to activate. Since we're in CA, we can use the payment plan. We start paying on them when we purchase them, correct? And then those payments are locked in (meaning they don't raise with a ticket price increase?)

Thanks.

I guess somebody has to pay for the mountains of refurbs. Why not start a few months early this year.

Okay, so help me out. We're buying Deluxe APs. We live in So Cal, so we'll be using the payment plan. Our plan is to go around February 7. Should we buy now to lock in the cheaper price, or wait until we go in 2 weeks and risk the price going up? I guess a better clarification would be, if we buy now, will the passes expire a year from now, or a year from our first visit using them?

The AP expires one day from when you turn in the voucher. That means it's either one year from when you turn in the voucher at the park ticket gate and go into the park or one year from when you take the voucher to a ticket booth and exchange it for the AP. In your scenario, it would be February 7, 2016.

Scenario 1: You take the voucher and walk up to the entrance to Disneyland on February 7, 2015. The CM at the gate scans the voucher, give you your temporary AP, and you head into the park. Later in the day you will have to go to the ticket booth to get your actual AP. In this scenario, your AP will expire on February 7, 2016.

Scenario 2: You take the voucher and walk up to the ticket booths on February 7, 2015. You hand the voucher to the CM at the booth and they give you your AP. You then head back out and do not go into a park that day. You return two months later and enter the the park using your AP for the first time. In this scenario, your AP will expire on February 7, 2016 (because that's the day you got your AP even though you didn't use it to enter a park).

When they announce the price increase , do they change the prices right away or do you have the rest of the day to get them at the old price?

In the past they would give you at least a 24 hour notice.

However, the last increase there was no announcement, prices changed over night. I expect the same with the upcoming increase.

Increases usually go in effect 2am on Sunday mornings. So buy now.

Has anyone heard anything new on whether prices are actually going up?

Ugh. I panicked with the 60th announcement tomorrow and bought APs tonight. I haven't even paid off our Disney World trip yet. :duck:

Double check on this scenario, just in case. Friends of ours bought their passes at the end of last year and had the CM and the lead clarify repeatedly that their year would not start until they went through the turnstiles this month. Given, any CM can be wrong, but our friends were told that even though they bought the passes (actual passes, not vouchers) at the end of Dec. 2014, the passes wouldn't activate until Jan. 2015, and thus would expire in Jan. 2016. I did tell our friends not to be surprised if their expiration date really is Dec. of this year, but they were clearly told otherwise.

We just got our Deluxe AP vouchers through the CA teachers union. We paid $495 and they say they expire in 12/31/16 when we printed them out. We are going in July.

The good news is, even if the prices increase at Disney TODAY, there are still plastic tickets at grocery stores and other possible places that you can get them at until they run out.

True, but I want to pay for our APs with my DVA account which means I can't buy them in store.

In the past, they've usually announced the hike would be effective within a day or two. Scanning back through last year's posts, it sounds like there were strong rumors coming out of ticket seller sites that an increase was coming, but Disney didn't make an official announcement until the night before.

Has anyone heard anything new on whether prices are actually going up?
Just rumors at this point. I've seen it listed on a few others sites that are usually pretty reliable. They're saying mid-February at this point. We shall have to wait and see.

Good to know. I haven't actually tried it (I went straight to the gate), so hopefully someone who has tried it will report back.

I've utilized this strategy before, but the last time I tried to buy the cheaper tickets at Safeway, Safeway could not activate them. The higher priced ones worked but the lower priced ones had been discontinued. This was probably about a month after the price increase so MAYBE the cheaper tickets could have been activated if I had gone to purchase them earlier.

You can often find tickets at the "old" prices though. Places like AAA and credit unions sell the tickets they have on hand first before selling the new ones. (actual paper tickets, not the cards that have to be activated at stores)

From what I have noticed, Disney normally increases ticket prices in May. But what Superlarz said definitely makes sense. On January 28, Disney will be "unveiling" what they have planned for the Diamond Celebration, so maybe they will announce price increases soon after this. :(

Has anything been announced today regarding the Diamond Celebration or ticket prices?
