**UPDATED**Problem w/ MS Re:point xfer- need some advice

Hi Folks,
Here is an update to my situation. I got a message from Carli late Friday afternoon informing me that she moved the 200 Sep 05 and 208 Dec 05 points to my March 06 UY. I just wanted to provide the update and to thank you all for your suggestions. I especially wanted to thank JudithM who was very helpful throughout.

I wish I knew the answer to this. I called beforehand and I was told that it was possible and I was given instructions on how to do it. After the first transfer I called and was told that the points were in fact Sep 05 UY pts and they would expire on Aug 31, 2006. Like I said it was only by chance that I decided to verify one last time that everything was done correctly when I found out the real story. I think MS should really train their CMs better on this so we are not getting incorrect/inconsistent information. This should be basic stuff for them IMHO and there should be one and only one story given by the CMs. I understand the shortcomings of the software but how can one CM say it is one thing and another say that it is not?!??! That is very scary and extremely frustrating.

I agree, VERY scary and frustrating! So glad it all worked out in the end. We are contemplating a transfer with some friends of ours, and I need to know what to expect before we do it!

I'm a relatively new member, and I made a chart to help keep my banking and borrowing dates straight. I have an October use year, so according to my homemade chart, I will not get my Oct. 2005 points until Oct. 1, 2005. Then, I'll have until Sept. 30, 2006 to use them.

Have I got it wrong? From reading this thread, it sounds like someone else already received their Sept. '05 points and was able to transfer them. What am I not understanding?

I hope my chart isn't wrong or I am in trouble.

No - your chart is correct. Althought the member did not yet receive their Sep 05 points, they are allowed to transfer them to me. Theoretically they remain Sep 05 points so I cannot use them until Sep 1st. But that is not how the system handles the transfers.

I was finally able to hook up with Carli D'Agostino this afternoon. This was my first interaction with her and I have to say she is a very friendly person. We had a great conversation. I recapped everything that she had detailed for me in her voicemail to me on Friday and everything was as I expected. All of the points were moved into my March 06 UY and I have the ability to bank them into my March 07 UY if I need to.

I asked Carli what I can do differently in the future to avoid having to go through this again. She told me that if I am 6 months or less into my current UY that they will always put the points into my current UY. If I am beyond 6 months they will put it in the following UY. So in the future, she suggested telling MS that I want the points transferred into the following UY if I don't plan on using them for awhile. I will do this in the future, although I can't help but feel as though I am cheating the system. These points just gained 6 months more shelf life by me essentially changing them from Sep 05 points to March 06 points. I guess in the grand scheme of things it won't make that much difference but it still seems odd to me that this is the solution that is being recommended by MS.

Thanks Mike for keeping us informed on a very confusing situation - transfering points. I transfered points into my account a few months ago and they went from the transfering owners BCV April UY to my BCV Feb. UY. I didn't care as I will be using them this summer. Did Carli say anything about home resort? I am looking for some more points for next summer and wanted to know if, for example, I transfer into my account OKW points would they become my home resort BCV points?

According to the rules they are not supposed to, but due to the limitations of the MS system they will become your home resort. I own at OKW and I transferred both BWV and OKW points into my account. They all became OKW. But the BWV could have stayed BWV points if I requested that.
This issue indirectly came up during our general conversation. Carli asked where we would be staying and I told her 1 week at OKW (my Home Resort) and 1 week at BCV. I mentioned that I would book 2 weeks at OKW at the 11 month window and then change the second week at the 7 month window. She then asked me if any of the transferred points were BCV because I would be able to use those at the 11 month window to book the second week. Unfortunately, the transferred points were BWV and OKW but the implication from Carli was that this could be done.
I know that is not much to go on but I hope it helps. I have read other posters state that they were able to use the booking privileges of the transferred points. It's another case of the MS system not being able to handle the transfer as spelled out in the rules so it will require special handling. But you should be able to do it.
