Updated list of Refurbs for 2014

First world problems, I know. I guess my point is that I totally understand why these things become deal-breakers for some.

Isn't this the truth - every.single.thing we discuss on this board is pretty much a 1st world issue, we are very lucky people to have the ability to spend time in a fun place with our families - when you take that perspective, as we often lose, it sheds such a bright light on things! :goodvibes

I can accept any ride being closed, but not the Disneyland Railroad! My heart is kinda breaking after hearing this news. Please postpone it a week, Disney! Please!

I feel the same way. We had plans to go the first week in May....but if this is true, that means that Alice, Soarin', and POTC would be down? (and I'm not sure that's even the whole list for the week I was going - just the ones I cared about the most) They are 3 of our favorites, and it's one thing to miss out on one or two things you love the most...but so many at once makes all the time, effort, travel, and money we extend for these trips just not worth it, IMHO. I know there are a lot of people who continue to cheer, "Don't let closures bother you! :cheer2: - there are SOOOO many *other* things to do at DLR!:dance3:". And that's fine for those who really feel that way. However, for many people, there are very *specific* things that we look forward to in our DLR trips - things that *make the trip* for us. That, coupled with the fact that we only get to go once every couple of years (or less) means that the absence of *several* of those things makes all those hours of travel (24, in my case - which is no picnic) and thousands of dollars not worth it. First world problems, I know. I guess my point is that I totally understand why these things become deal-breakers for some. Both viewpoints - the one shared by those that can be thrilled by Disney no matter what the conditions...and those who need it to measure up to a certain standard to feel like the time/money are worth the experience - are both entirely valid. Here's hoping everyone gets as-close-to the trip they were hoping for as possible. :)

I hear ya!

Also Nemo subs are out for this year.

I realize there's still plenty to do/see and, yeah, we'll prob'ly have a great time in spite of the closures. It's our first trip to DL after so many WDW trips and DCL cruises. It's new-to-us Disney. You won't hear me apologize for how I feel. I'm entitled to that same as anyone else. I read about Pirates possibly being out, too, and my heart sank. Guilty as charged. I'd be a liar if I came here and said I was unphased. Just expressing myself honestly. It is what it is.

I feel locked-in regardless of what's open or closed because I bought the airfare for my family of 4. It'd cost way too much to change at this point. Sure we could return to catch what we missed but who's to say the same thing wouldn't happen again? I'm not so sure. Again, it's how I feel. If that's wrong in someone's book I'm simply gonna be wrong. Maybe I'll change my mind. Maybe not. Maybe I'll get over it. Maybe not. Again, it is what it is.

Honestly, I'm very glad DL isn't afraid to take attractions down for refurb regardless of what other things are down or what time of year it is. This shows a commitment to quality that I look forward to enjoying. It's not a bad thing. Buuuuut, there's this awful little petulant child in me who wants her way and needs some time to lick her wounds. Being honest, folks. Just being honest.

Part of me does wonder if this is what I get for telling the teenagers "Tough noogies" when they said they'd rather do another cruise. Definitely rethinking the decision to go to DL (finally!) instead of flying down to St.Maarten for the week. But I've already bought the air and we're going to DL. Maybe I should stop looking at this stuff and let the chips fall where they may. ;)

As the one to start the most recent drama, I would remind everyone that I just reported what one CM told me. I don't know if she is right, or if she's nuts. I just reported what she said.

All we know for sure right now is that the scheduled POTC refurb in late Jan. - early Feb. is no longer showing in the park hours calendar. It is still listed on the interactive map and was on the automated phone line as of yesterday. A CM told me it has been postponed yesterday.

Which of that information is correct? Who the heck knows? Clearly, everyone at DLR isn't even on the same page, because if they were, all the information would be consistent.

It would be pretty awesome if they would just set the refurb schedule and stop moving stuff around.

You didn't start any drama. For every refurb someone somewhere will be sad they missed it however brief the sentiment is. I think people just need to let it out when they're happy or sad which is okay too. Happy and sad are part of the experience of anything in life. Don't feel bad. ;)

Amen on setting the schedule before releasing said info. That would help tremendously!

ITA , we are so sad that Splash Mountain will be closed on our trip because it is family favorite and holds a lot of great memories for us. But the Disneyland Railroad? :( That is just quintessential Disney.

There is a touch of drama... :goodvibes But it was not you that started it. It is Disney. They have every right to move refurb dates around and even state that they are subject to change. It's just frustrating the sources don't match. It makes it hard for the guest that plans around these things.

I'd like to think that the park hours map is not as reliable as maybe some of the other sources based on the fact that it gets changed all the time, but who really knows. Is there one to source to trust more than the others? :confused3

We plan a January trip every year. I have started the January threads before. We love the low crowds and understand they come with a cost. This year is different. I know the OSHA issues put Disney in a difficult position. I do have two complaints. One is the lack of information. ( btw, I am a WDW CM).

The second is there is no offer of discount tickets during this period. Yes, DL is a passholder park where the majority of guests will be able to return. It is very easy to point the guests who will be disappointed, those who are buying daily passes. A gesture of a few dollars discount would ease the pain.

This is where I've ended up. I've already bought our tickets for the flights from Seattle as well as the ferry from our little island to get to Seattle so cancelling is not an option.

But, it looks like we are going to miss:
Nemo
Alice
Space Mountain
Indiana Jones
Soarin'

It sucks that my favourite (Soarin'), DH's favourite (SM) and DS's favourite (Alice) are all going to be down while we are there. In fact, IJ and SM close the day before we get there so unless they delay the refub, we are out of luck. This will be the second trip that SM has been down, we were there last year when it was shut down due to the OSHA issue.

I'm not going to get all first world problem whiney but I am disappointed and I don't want to tell DH that his favourite ride is going to be closed again!

Yep. I feel ya. All the looking and knowing is the down-side of the overplanning. A friend recently mentioned on her first trip she refused to even look at a park map. She just went into the parks and let them unfold. I think there's definitely a wisdom in here. Plan what you must with the logistics but let the details unfold in the moment. The closures probably won't amount to more than 10 seconds of "Awwww dang" when I'm there. I'll just move on to the next cool thing. ;)

Please tell me my eyes are deceiving me....

This will be my first time to Disneyland. When I saw this thread I immediately got nervous and thought I hope none during my trip lol. Or anyway, at least not Indiana Jones, that's the ride I'm looking forward to most...

Yep, you guessed it. Indiana Jones will be down during the time I will be in Disneyland April 6-10. Unfriggenbelievable! Why not any other friggen ride but that one? I know I'm being childish but what the *&%$!

EDIT:
Wow... this is no joke. I was upset about Indiana Jones... but then realized Nemo submarines and Alice in Wonderland are also closed while we're there. Soarin' is too but I've been on that many times in FL. This is really sad because what am I gonna do now? The flight was booked already....

Who knows, this might be the only chance I ever get to go to Disneyland....

:(

I'm sorry. :( I know your pain.

PLEASE forgive me if this has already been discussed (I haven't read every post in this thread, just most), but has anyone noticed that RSR is now on the map for refurb Jan. 28?

I believe you're the first to mention it, or the first that *I* noticed.

Looks like it's a one day only thing though. As of right now.

Are there any rehabs listed for the summer months yet ? When will they be posted ? I know that Nemo is done for the year and rumor has it as done forever but usually Disney does not have rehab over the summer months ... We are there from July 11- July 18 the First trip ever to DL ... AS I plan this also planning Oct for WDW MNSSHP ! LOL :thumbsup2

where are you guys seeing these refurbs listed? I look on the daily calendar for the days I am going in Feb and it only mentions Splash, Alice, and one other (can't remember), but not nemo, BTMR, PoC, or the railroad. Wouldn't the daily schedule be the most reliable source?

May I ask what are your dates?

Here's a few links to the lists I check:

I have checked a one week time frame from the 16th to the 23rd of January and GRR is not listed as refurb on the Disney site. Is it operating now? Anyone there who can confirm.

Out of curiousity, if anyone knows or notices patterns - how often does the refurb list usually update? Is it something Disney updates weekly, bi-weekly, or as soon as they make the decisions?

POTC and Alice are now off the Daily Park Hours Schedule but are still listed as refurbs on the Park Map and the phone line. Anyone know which one of Disney's "sources" tends to have the correct and up to date info.?
