Hello,

I am hoping you can help me with an off-disney question.

I am taking my son for his first trip to Scotland and England March 30, - April 9th 2012. I was wondering the best place to get tickets to a ManU game or (his preference) Tottenham at White Hart Lane. I am sure their schedule is not out yet, but would it be best to buy tickets before we head out there? Is it nearly impossible to get tickets to White Hart Lane?

Also, we would be flying into London (I have been several times to London) but I have heard it is difficult to get to White Hart Lane. Would a taxi be too expensive?

I am sorry for all the questions, but this is a suprise trip for him and I am determined to make it very magical (even if we are not headed to a Disney park)

Tickets for games could be easy it could be impossible, it all depends on who they are playing against,
for man u tickets to v popular games eg liverpool, arsenal, chelsea, europe members apply for tickets they are then selected randomly, all other tickets are offered to members to buy on a first come first serve basis, if buy a set date there are tickets left then they go on sale to the general public.

your best option will be to go on a site such as the manchjester united ticket exchange and buy those tickets of a member, they will be more expensive that way but at least you will get a ticket

My information is about 2 years old, but i assume the procedure is the same, i also assume same procedure for applies for spurs

alternatively the old trafford tour is a very good tour assume spurs have a white haret lane tour (though of course their trophy cabinet wont be aas impressive )

The boy has ManU bedding and Tottenham Bale Jersey!! He is such a soccer nut (and a pretty good little player)

I told him we are headed to WDW, so when we get to the airport and I reveal that we are going to England, he will be thrilled. He may be the only 10yo more excited about soccer than Disney.

I am ok not seeing Arsenal & Chelsea (YUCK!!) Liverpool would be ok though. I am guessing Westham and Everton are a little easier to get? We will definately do the Old Trafford Tour as we are headed to Manchester. I hadn't considered White Hart Lane having a tour. I will definately look into that.

I think he would rather see an EPL game over a Champions League, but I guess beggers can't be choosers. Thank you so much for all the information. I know we will be freezing that time of year, so we will have to make sure we bundle up.

I would hate it if I thought I was going to WDW and then had to board a plan to a whole other country (that doesn't even have a Disney park)

the schedule should get set sometime in Late July, when all the teams have been promoted demoted, however some matches will be rescheduled (for cup clashes, bad weather, etc) any cup matches will be sell outs that late in the season

the weather might not be too bad, it is quite warm really, took the dog out this evening with no coat or jumper/fleece on plus there is plenty of hot bovril sold at the stadiums

if you watch a spurs match i would advise trying to get a match against a London club as there will be a better atmosphere for a derby, though Everton or Aston Villa or Man City/Utd could be good atmospheres if they are close in the table to add spice, my advise if you could go to a spurs Arsenal match do, despite your dislike for Arsenal the football would be a high quality and the local rivalry would be electric

a Man U match any of the local teams, top 6 teams or traditional rivals like Newcastle would be good matches

where are you planning to go to in Scotland and England

I am going to take him to London, Salisbury, Stratford, Manchester, and hopefully Bath and Lake District (my favorite) Then of course, Edinburgh and the Highlands. I am guessing he wants to see Stonehenge, but we will see.

I would be devastated if someone told me I was headed to a Disney Park and took me somewhere else. However, about a month or so ago I asked him where he wanted to go for a "Mommy and Me" trip. Last year he picked WDW, so I figured that is where he would pick again. But he picked UK!!

After thinking about it, I went back and told him it was a lot of money to cross the pond and travel the UK. WDW was more in my budget, so we would have to go there instead. I swear, he looked as though I crushed his life-long dream! He said he understood and said he would just stay at Saratoga Springs. I knew I was going to take him to England when I told him it wasn't in the budget, but now I know he will be overjoyed.

An Arsenal/Spurs game would be a lot of fun!! If I am able to get a Tottenham game, I will have to sneak one of his jerseys for me as well. Thank you for the White Hart Lane link. I will have to take him on that tour. He is going to be so excited I can't wait

As far as the weather, it was 85 F these past 4 days. So, I am certain it will be cold for me!! Truthfully, I am a weather wimp. But hopefully, it will be warmer than I am anticipating.

If you can't get in for the matches you want, try a Fulham game. They are a Premiership side but are a smaller club and it is much easier to get tickets. Their ground is very popular with neutrals as it is on the banks of the River Thames, very old with a great history attached.
They are known as a very friendly club who occasionally come up with some quirky results (recently beat Spurs 4-0 for example!)

Fulham are owned by Mohammed Al Fayed (not sure if he is as famous in the States - it was his son who was with Princess Di and died in the car crash) who occasionally brings his celebrity friends to the games - Michael Jackson went one time.

Your son has great taste in players Most of Tottenham hotspur home matches are usually sold out, especially against the likes of Arsenal. Your best bet is to look on the tottenham website

I watched that Fullham Tottenham game. My 8yo daughter was very upset by the outcome.

I did not realize how easy it was to get to Fullham's stadium. That may be where we end up if we can't get other tickets. (You win wife of the week for that mention I am defianetly going to try to do the VIP Tottenham tour. Nico (my son) will be excited about that.

Tennisfan - he was disappointed to hear that Bale would not be playing in the friendly match Wales Vs England. He wanted to see if Bale could hold his own against Crouch, Defoe, and Lennon. (Does anyone else want to take an eye pencil and color in the cat scratches? It really bothers me much more than it should )

I'm disappointed too. Bale has become a remarkable player this year, its not hard to hold your own against Crouch (and yes i'm a Spurs fan I just don't rate Crouch)

I don't blame you for that, Crouch isn't typically the game changer.

I am headed to Austria/Switzerland July 27th for about 25 days. Hopefully EPL schedules will be out and tickets on sale before I leave. I don't want to miss out, since I can't change my dates for the Brittain trip.

I've just noticed in your 1st post you mentioned about getting to White Hart Lane. I have found this site which may be of use. When I went we drove so can't help much in regard of trains but I know many who have done & found it straight forward.

Means you will get a chance to see the youth of 2 top teams and should get a ticket and there a lot cheaper than a main match and he will get to see old tafford and some futyre stars of the game

As a huge Spurs fan (and one of the lucky few looking forward to seeing the game vs Real Madrid at WHL) I couldn't possibly pass this thread by! Tottenham tickets are sold first to members (membership is available to everyone, but would be expensive to join just to see one match) and then to the general public if the tickets aren't all taken at the end of the member priority period. Most games do not go to general sale, but against the less glamourous teams there is a chance. The key thing is to see when the tickets go on sale (viewable via the website) and be on the site at 9.30 sharp UK time on that day. Kinda like trying to get a CRT reservation

Getting to the stadium is best done via public transport, the nearest london underground stop is quite a walk away or the overground trains will get you closer.

I have a feeling I am going to be touring the Alps when the tickets go on sale. I leave late July and come back mid August. Maybe I will be lucky and it will be early to mid July, I can only hope.

Ok, Thomas Cook is more for the general pubic? I will email them and ask as I think you are right, that might be a better way to go to get tickets. Thank you for taking the time to answer me.

I wonder if Tottenham will still be as difficult if they aren't able to make Champions league next year. I would guess yes because they seem to have a very loyal following.

On a completely personal note, I found a Tottenham overnight camp not far from my mom's house here in the States. My son is too young (you have to be 13) but he can train on the next field over to the Tottenham academy coaches. It has been 4 days since I found the camp online and every morning and evening he asks if I signed him up for the camp. Yesterday, he called me during his school lunch break to ask if I had signed him up yet. The child is passionate about his team.

Different ends of the stadium are kept for each team's supporters. It could be a rather unpleasant experience if you are surrounded by opposing supporters. (And sadly in the past some people would get into the wrong end just to stir up trouble - hence the warning.)
