Updated Disney Gift Card Deals and More

SouthFayetteFan, I think most people here are looking for a few tips to save money on a Disney trip but are not interested in spending 18 hours a day keeping track of 95 credit cards. There are plenty of other blogs out there which are totally devoted to the manufactured spending game and people who spend every waking hour doing that. People here just want a few tips on how to save money on Dsiney trips and Dinsey gift cards that can be done in a minute or 2. Like an Amex offer. Or a sale at BJ's on Disney gift cards.

Totally get this and I'd say most people don't MS but find the best way to utilize the deals and points from their cards. It's just as much knowing which card to get that will help as it is finding the deals. I find twitter to be more helpful on that, as far as offers on cards and stuff. Granted I don't always have them but I'm not looking at my chase or amex offers daily, they don't change enough. But if someone finds 10% at lowes or starbucks or something I'll use then I'll take a look and if I find one great, if not it was only a few min of my time.

I do agree that multiple credit cards can be a lot and that this thread maybe wasn't the right place for the discussion as people are trying to utilize what they have to save on Disney gc, not sign up for more cards. I also miss the chatting that happened in the old thread because I feel like a lot came from that and now there's very little for whatever reason.

It's a bit of a straw man to say @SouthFayetteFan is spending 18 hours a day keeping track of 95 credit cards or ever suggested anyone else do so. In fact, one of the main points of the interview is to pace yourself and not take on more than you can handle. Even with your example of using an Amex offer, you first have to HAVE an Amex that gets that offer (my CCs never have useful offers).

Personally, I think a lot of the tips on this thread are more work than what @SouthFayetteFan described. Think of how many people here strategize stacking this credit card with that grocery store, and qualifying for fuel points that can only be redeemed at certain gas stations. I appreciate their zeal, but I'd rather just fill up for a lower price at Costco (bonus if you use Costco's card for additional % back). So when I see something that isn't applicable to me or just seems like too much work, I keep scrolling, but I appreciate that others find it valuable.

If you're not interested in CCs, that's cool, but you can still show respect for the time @FoxC63 took to set up the interview and @SouthFayetteFan took to answer the questions. As for me, I'm curious about CCs, and appreciate the information. It's definitely more useful to me than how to save $10 at a grocery store 300 miles from my house stacked with a CC offer I don't have. Not everything has to appeal to everyone to be a worthwhile topic for this thread.

Well speaking of straw men... I did once play the Scarecrow in a production of the Wizard of Oz... 😂 😂 😂

Seriously though, I really appreciate the comment. @FoxC63 invited me to provide some insight into the world of Credit Card bonuses and I accepted her invitation. I will readily admit that I'm crazy with this stuff... but the takeaway certainly wasn't that others should be crazy too (although there's always more room for crazy people on our CC thread). For some folks it just might be worth pursuing 1-2 cards a year to help offset $500-$2,000 of your trip expense. If you have good credit, it's easy money :D

Just to add - you don't have to churn to earn worthwhile cc perks for travel. We have a total of 5 cards between DH and myself. We earned the SUBs but don't cancel and repeat. We don't actively look for cc to apply for. I put most of my organic spend on the cc's (DH not so much) and pay them off weekly. We have more than enough points in various places to meet our travel needs with very little/no OOP expense on air, hotel, car rental travel expenses. So as @SouthFayetteFan and others have said - there are many ways to play this game.
(And I pick up lots of other useful information on the CC thread - like which card to use to pay for my cell phone so I don't have to carry cell phone insurance.)

so is 6% about as good as it will get no credit card rebates involved?
Not for me but again it depends on tons of factors.

I can sometimes get Amex offers (I consider that different from cc rewards) for 10% off at BB (so I buy $250 of Disney gift cards and get $25 back). When I get fuel points at Kroger, those are a 12-20% savings for me.

Exactly, I don't have 75% of the grocery stores people here post about but I don't complain about it not being helpful. I appreciate all of the advice I see.

I think some don't realize and/or are willing to accept how much churning has changed, the good old days are gone. Granted, there are deals to be had but they're too few and as @ClapYourHands pointed out, some take more steps to secure. I feel just as frustrated.

Personally, I was tired of receiving 10-15 Wine offers from Am. Express while others were getting Lowe's, Home Depot and Staples regularly. I'm allergic to alcohol and the last time we received a Lowe's offer was in 2019 so we got a new credit card.
Did it hurt our credit score? No.
We still use the oldest card we own and utilize the 5% category but now we have more flexibility.
Applying for ONE new credit card is not unreasonable but using the same old ones is a wormhole and you're not going to get very far.
@SouthFayetteFan pointed out, do not add your spouse. How many of you knew not to do this? My husband meet his X amount on a new roof and getting his car fixed then he sent me his referral link. When I signed up, I meet my X amount on the overhaul of my hick mobile $3,500 just on that and we still earned the referral bonuses. It took time to save those funds and extreme couponing helped tremendously.

We even took the leap and opened a new checking & savings account and received $600. Our bank of 25 years just wasn't doing anything for us and neither was their credit card.

This thread which caused/causes pain and frustration for many was conceived with the intentions of moving forward, beyond the good old days and offers a way for everyone to save on daily expenses in order to save more money for vacations. Yet we still we face claw backs, credit card termination and rewritten terms on how/where/when we can apply gift cards from cashback sites, stores, apps and from the gift card issuers. We have to think think outside of the box, get out the rut and try new ways.

We also need to acknowledge there are new DISer's on board, some of which never knew that this thread and the I love credit cards so much! thread existed.

@afan , you want to chat, then chat, all are welcome 24/7. The days of someone posting "You're Off Topic" is over. The days of thumbing through pages to find out what's going on is over. I try to post all the information I can find on the main pages and if you or anyone finds an offer that's not listed, then please post it. I think the reason the chatting has decreased significantly is due to the fact many offers are already posted and at your disposal. I also believe especially at this time, many people are simply out of work.

I bought $700 worth of Disney gift cards today at Hy-Vee. I was able to use $100 worth of Hy-Vee gift cards to help buy them. Those were from my Apple gift cards I bought a couple of weeks ago for my new phone. I bought a $500 gift card and received $50 back which I then used toward my $200 gift card so I was able to use the gift cards right away. It's good know that you can use gift cards to buy gift cards at Hy-Vee.

I just want to say how appreciative I am of all that you do. You are really awesome and we don't tell you that enough!

Just to be clear, yesterday was the only day for the extra $10 gift card at Hy-Vee. I did find out that I could buy 3rd party gift cards with Hy-Vee gift cards. They run the gift card special a couple times a year.

I would have probably eventually used the Hy-Vee gift cards for groceries but I don’t shop there often because of their pricing. I was happier using them all up at once. Oh, and I earned another $1.40 in fuel perks.

It snowed here a few days back and watching Sherlock's reaction was priceless. Like a child, he looked up and stuck out his tongue! When the flakes got larger he started jumping up to snatch as many as he could. 3" inches later I look him for our usual quarter mile jog and 30 minutes of race walking. When we got to the turnaround to head back home, I stopped to have a look see at his paws & pads. There was ice melt salts embedded between his pads and the pads were covered with 1/4" of ice. Done! We took the short cut home and I washed his paws.

So, I'm looking for winter boots for him. Any recommendations? And while I'm at it, I would also like to get a Dremel style nail trimmer.
